what a gesture... spend a huge chunk of money on a gift harvested through hate, opression, by murderers rapists and terrorists. i love you, wifey!

Only a very small percentage of diamonds originate in conflict areas.

But I think the entire business reeks.

No, I don't think most of them are, but the problem is there's almost no way of knowing whether or not the diamond you're buying is a conflict diamond.

Canadian diamonds have a microscopic image of a Polar Bear on 'em to show that they aren't conflict diamonds, but you may have to pay more for them.

I think the whole diamond thing is a lure, in which it implies, hey come with me and you'll be taken care of, but if it doesn't workout you have something that you can aleast hoc for a profit,

so then she reasons well, this is partial insurance in case it doesn't work out, it falls in the same lines as a prenuptial agreement

Honestly, I sometimes wonder why it's not Africans who are committing terrorism against the West.

Exactly. Perhaps it is a symbol of security. Like it or not, women value security.

While I don't necessarily agree with the practice, buying a diamond is (unfortunately) part of societal courtship. Despite what many say, the vast majority of women prefer a real diamond.

Someone should start a poll: "Guys, would you mind if after you bought a ring, your fiance' gained 300 lbs?".

The correct answer is: "of course not, I married her out of love". The truth however, is usually different.

The africans are too hungry to pull that shit. I mean, the arabs and iranians are hungry too, but not african hungry.

Besides, the africans only care about dominating eachother.

Join hands for peace!

Also:
The practice of buying diamonds for engagement is a relatively recent development and arguably stems directly from it being created intentionally by DeBeers.

They created value by controlling production, and then created a demand.

getting a ring seems silly in the first place. If you place importance on the ring though, dont be a ghetto bitch and get the real deal.

Fuck diamonds right in the ear.
Well not diamonds themselves.. but fuck the whole stigma of society that comes with them.
The diamond industry is one of the more fucked up industries in practice in modern society. Probably <95% of the US diamonds come from De Beers and we know how ethical they are. A $5 rock becomes a $5,000 rock, to you.. the consumer.. with a bunch of dead africans in its trail.
IMHO any woman who expects a diamond ring to "prove your love" is a materialistic and brainwashed person.
Besides, the dated modern ritual of marriage is fucking broken, considering more than half of the marriages in the US end in divorce. A diamond didn't save their marriage.
Marriages should be based on mutual love, respect, compassion, understanding, trust, and a whole bunch of other shit. But not diamonds.
Sure.. giving a ring with a gemstone as a symbol of union is one thing fine and dandy. But to expect your lover to spend thousands of dollars that most people can't afford... on a worthless shiny rock as some sort of status symbol because it's the 'norm of society' is fucking illogical and retarded. That money could be much better spent, I don't know.. paying the mortgage and grocery bills, or sending your kids to college.

Diamonds would be cool if they were like other precious stones, but they're not because they've been whored by the man.

I don't wanna read all the posts, but...

If she's a hippy it probably won't matter as much.

If she's not... then she'll constantly deny the fact that it's not 'real' from her friends. Eventually lying to everyone will eat at her. That bitch.

I dunno, but would you prefer a pewter wedding band or a solid gold one?

Good answer!
I am not out to be a money grubbing bitch.
As someone said before, as long as they tell
me up front that it is not gold, I wouldn't have
a problem at all. Are you marrying the ring, or
the man?

I would buy her a cubic zyrconium strap on and let her fuck me in the ass, before I would buy her a diamond.

yeah get a strap on with a dildo as hard as diamonds, I think you'd derive better longterm pleasure and satisfaction going that route

Give me something else instead.

Hell, stick it in a tumbler and make it shiny.  Shiny is gut, ja.
