I am a flatpicker, grew up listening to bluegrass, old-time music, and old country. Tony Rice and Doc Watson are two of my all-time favorites. I piddled around on a mandlin for a few months once, but I am by no mean proficient on it. You can hear some of my attempted playing if you click on my link. "You'll Find Her Name" is an old Monroe brothers tune that I sloppily thrash out. This music is genetic, I think. It's either in you, or you cannot stand it. Peace.

I'm alright on the mandolin. Some of those chords are just rediculous.

I like to put on some Yonder Mountain and jam along with them, on guitar, mandolin, or banjo. Though I can only keep up with them with the guitar and slightly with the mando. My banjo chops are not up to par.

WOW i got excited when i saw people actualy replied to my thread. Thought it was a shot in the dark. Glad to see you guys here.
I am no means a good musician yet. But i have my goals set and now its time to practice practice practice.
Just picked up a Dearing Sierra banjo and a Missuri made mandolin.
Doc Watson makes me very happy when i listen to him, so does Yonder.
Automan, last i talked with you was two years ago on the rocks at Nelsons ledges. You were talking about how you slid right into the Gibson shop. That was a cool storey. You still work there? How is your women? I had a nice convo withher while she was drawing, well i think so anyways.
Any recomendations on good songs to learn for starters?
