Drying

Anyone had any luck with strictly a dessicant chamber. I want to skip fan drying first. Thanks, L8rs.

I've had success with using just a dessicant drying chamber, but it is much slower than fan drying. Fan drying gets it really dry really fast. Sometimes it doesn't seem like the dessicant chamber fully dries out the shrooms, I usually have to cut the shrooms in half to get them good and dry.

Dessicant drying isn't good when done solo.

I usually skip the noisy, slow fan and dry them under a black sweatshirt with a 60W light shining down about 4 inches above. It peaks at 86 degrees and doesn't kill any potency. I can dry fruits 90% in 12 hours.

Why would you want to skip fan drying first? It is very easy to do, easy to conceal, very cheap, and works better than pretty mcuh anything else except freeze drying. I was a huge skeptic of fan drying until I tried it... now I wouldn't use anything else. You will still want to use a dessicant for storage.

The main problem most people have with a dessicant chamber is overloading. As long as you keep the fruit to dessicant ratio low you should be fine. If you end up overloading the chamber all of your fruit will rot.

I really recommend hitting the fruit with a fan for at least 12 hours before you put them in the dessicant chamber. The fan will knock out over 50% of the moisture in that time. If you fan for 24 hours, you can probably skip the dessicant chamber completely unless you live in a swamp.
