Does peroxide turn myc blue??
    #5936379 - 08/06/06 08:00 AM (17 years, 5 months ago)

Hi,

I was just wondering if hydrogen peroxide turns mycelium blue as I've been misting with 3% peroxide/water(ratio of approximate 1:15) and I think sometimes specks of this solution touches the cakes by accident and now my cakes look like they have little specks of blueish green.
I just want to make sure it is cause of the peroxide and not due to a contam.

Can someone please help me solve my riddle?

Also I have read other posts while trying to use the search function to find my answer that the reason mycelium turns blue when we touch it is because of the higher than usual amounts of oxygen it is exposed to, so if peroxide dissolves into oxygen it would technically turn mycelium blue, right??

Sorry I don't have pics at the moment as I can't take a good picture with my cam for the life of me and don't know what I'm doing wrong as it always comes out blurry even though its 5.1 megapixels if that means anything...

thanks

I have had peroxide give my casings a blue tint when treating cobweb.

You should be fine.
