after taking your kava supplements for a couple of weeks, or at least being exposed to kava for a while consistently, obtain these things: At least a half pound of kava cheesecloth or a good neckerchief works good big bowl that u can work in, splash and mash ur hands around in without spillage something to hold alot of water a bowl or cup to serve
the fijians use a big wooden bowl called a tanoa that will hold probably 2 or 3 gallons of liquid. they serve using half of a coconut shell carved free of the white inside and stained either in mangrove mud or covered in a vegetable or olive oil coating
first, take your big bowl and set it in front of you, with your water and other things right near by so u can be sitting and still reach it. make sure your sitting on something comfy, and that the area around the bowl is ok to get wet and maybe stained slightly by the brown kava, laying newspapers could be an alright safety measure if u expect spills.
Lay your neckerchief across your 'tanoa' and pour enough kava so that when you pick up the neckerchief at all four corners and hold it up, that the lump of kava will be about the size of your fist. find some way to make sure no powdered kava is going to get out of any holes or open spots in the neckerchief, its goo to tie the top corners off to form a bag, or just hold them wrapped with your hand. The bag is going to need to be mashed and kneeded and fondled roughly in water so make sure its sealed, you dont wanna be drinking and get a big chunk of bark in your throat, yuck. Pour an inch or two of water in the bottom of your tanoa and proceed to soak it into your neckerchief, slowly sepperating the sifting the kava around in the bag so that its fully saturated. then begin to push the kava in the bag against the walls of the tanoa while sliding down the side, rolling and shifting the kava in the bag with force, you can roll up and down the sides in the water to shift the kava around. roll it like your rolling up dough. this will greatly force out lots of kava. another way is to hold the kava bag in the water with one hand, and let the bag sit in the palm of your other hand in the water while you squeeze and massage the bag in the water to try and sepparate out the smaller finer particles from the bigger ones so that they may make it out the finer pores of the neckerchief. keep and eye on the exits to the neckerchief, pieces escape easily, its best to avoid getting that part in the water if u can. the bigger the neckerchief or strainer, the better.
once youve mixed the fuck out of it, and i mean sit there and have fun doing it to some meditative music for like 10-20 mins at least just kneeding and sifting. your water should turn khaki tan color.
it will taste like dirt water with a hint of nutmeg, maybe slightly peppery. ive even tasted some that tasted like vanilla bean. use your serving bowl to stir up the liquid. little bits of kava will fall to the bottom and pile up, and its good to stir decently before each bowl.
the fijian tradition is to clap once, drink your kava, and then clap three times. thats their funny but serious tradition.
when starting a kava bowl they clap twice at a moderate pace, and then three fast paced ones. ive heard this followed by a stampede of sober fijians working on repairing a bure' (grass hut) running over to join the circle.
try your best to not eat at least 2 or 3 hours before attempting to venture into the world of kava. its ok to have some beer or water to go with your kava for change of taste. but try not to consume too many solids.
i admit to eating a few saltines while drinking kava (good for change of taste), but for your first time nothing is probably best
Here it is.This is from the PM you sent me.
