anyone else think that this current heat wave may be earths way of returning the population to equilibrium. i know its not the most humanistic friendly concept, however i am reminded of this differential equation where if the population is over a limit it decreases to the limit and if its above it, it increases to it. i cant remember what its called, all i remember is the guy studied like the population of some birds or something. either way i kinda just think this time might be that, we have reached a max population limit and it needs to fluctuate back to equilibrium. in essense this heat is the earths way of population control i guess you could say. any thoughts?

Well, Global warming def has something to do with it. And since humans are at least partially contributing to it, you could say we are helping to create a new climate.
I don't think mother earth is doing anything intelligently or as a reflex to lower our population; we're just dumb fucks who forgot how to live w/ nature and are destroying eden.

well im not saying that mother earth has a concious or has intelligence or whatever. im just say we have may have reached the maximum sustainable human population within an environment. I mean at some point a given ecosystem can no longer sustain its inhabitants if they keep growing in number. that especially considering our using of natural resources. also in a way we have somewhat increased our consumption efficiency in certain areas of the world, however overall prob increased total consumption. i wonder what is the most sustainable population and what is their consuming/depleting efficiency such that it is maintainable over a extended amount of time?

Well, the most sustainable populations are native groups scattered across the globe which are constantly having their land stolen from them by westerners so they can drill for oil or build a sweatshop.
Yeah, the first thing we would notice as we approached the earth's population capacity would be a scarcity of basic goods. Staple foods would be in short supply, clean water, medical care, etc. Although currently we in the west are feeling the effects of less oil production...

From the abovementioned wiki:
Optimists believe that the 2006 population level of over six billion may be supported by current resources, or that the global population may grow to ten billion and still be within the Earth's carrying capacity. In The Skeptical Environmentalist, Bjørn Lomborg argued that because of the falling rate of population growth in some regions, and because of new technologies, there is little problem with overpopulation. The assumptions that underlie these claims, however, have been strongly criticised[12]. One criticism is that poor people can't afford such technologies. One counterargument is that meat production is very energy inefficient, so that food availability would increase if protein sources like soybeans were used in lieu of meat, since humans would then be eating lower on the food chain. However, given that this would require enough people giving up meat for soy and other plant based protein to make an agricultural shift in production meaningful, this argument may be unrealistic. It also assumes that the grain fed to livestock is fit for human consumption. [10]
Optimists claim that there will be no mass starvation due to a shortage of arable land. About 21% of the earth's land is arable. In the past, 160 acres (650,000 m²) of farm land crops fed one person. Hydroponics in autonomous building gardens and greenhouses grow more food in less space, although the requirement for fresh water may limit this technology. Most food production experiments have used vegetable farming because it can support an adult from as little as 15 m² of land. High crop yield vegetables like potatoes and lettuce do not waste space with inedible plant parts, like stalks, husks, vines, and inedible leaves. New varieties of selectively bred and hybrid plants have larger edible parts (fruit, vegetable, grain) and smaller inedible parts. With new technologies, it is now possible to grow crops on some unarable land under certain conditions. Aquaculture could theoretically dramatically increase available area. Hydroponics and food from bacteria and fungi, like Quorn, may allow the growing of food without having to consider land quality, climate, or even available sunlight, although such a process may be very energy-intensive.
In defending these new technologies, optimists, also called cornucopians, can overlook the fact that not all arable land will remain so if it is used for agriculture, as some marginal land can only be made to produce food by unsustainable practices like slash-and-burn agriculture. They have also been criticized for failing to account for future shortages in fossil fuels, required for modern agriculture. (See Hubbert peak) They often counter that there will be ample fossil fuel supplies until after fossil fuel-reliant technologies have been phased out, [11] or even that Hubbert's "peak oil" theory is wrong and that we will never run out of oil in the foreseeable future [12].

i really hate to think about this stuff...major buzzkill
the global warming phenomina has actually been studied and the earth actually goes through an exponential gain in temperature over the course of many millenia(independant of human pollution) untill it just drops off. theoretically this dropoff(rapid cooling) is caused by the melting of the ice caps which messes with water currents and causes massive weather pattern changes...ice age anyone. and gradually it returns to normal and the entire process starts over.
this entire study was based on core samples which may be bullshit any ways...just my 2 cents

Here, anyway the the heat, tends to come in cycles. I remember the summer of 1980, that was one of the hottest, and one of the most fun for me. Hell, its summer in Texas, I do have pity for the older folks, and others without the means for AC.

You're right habitat,
The earth does cycle through climate change over time, ice core sample prove this.
But, we are also contributing to the current state of affairs; we may not be the "cause" of global warming, but all of our hydrocarbon burning sure is a great catalyst!

Interesting articles, however after a certain point these technologies have no gain towards extra life sustaining on earth. there must be a limit, what is it? there is all this global warming talk going around now, is it mularkey or is it viable? if the latter than i would think we would have to be in the leveling off regime of human population.

Well, yeah dude.
Unless we invent (and the black had which secretly controls everything allows the masses to have) some super technologies or we begin colonizing other worlds, we'll just keep fucking till we can't support our own children.
And yes, millions will die, but such is the way of natural balance.

I don't know but I'm too hot to be able to even think right now. My air conditioner causes a short circuit every time I turn it on so I have to rely on a stupid box fan. It's been hot as hell for several days now. Sleeping at night is no easy endeavor. It's really starting to mess with my mind. I almost put in some over time at work today just to stay in the air conditioned environment a little longer. Now that's just plain crazy.
