My Back Yard: June Jaunt

I realize these pictures are from almost two months ago, but I wanted to share with you some photos from my first EVER mushroom hunt since I wasn't a shroomery member at the time!
----
June was the month that really hooked me on mushrooms, and I never realized all the mushroom mayhem that was going on in the thin stretch of forest just behind my house. In this particular jaunt, as my first, my primary reason for photographing these mushies was to have a good reference for various Pennsylvaia mushrooms for my very first art exhibit at the local hospital. So, being the newbie that I was, I wasn't aware of all the essential information to gather for an ID...so naturally I don't expect any! Little did I know that this experience would hook me and hook me hard on mycology!
Enjoy the photos!

The mushroom above was pretty cool, not in coloration, but in the fact that the stems were deeply grooved, and looked twisted. Again, no ID expected, but I just wanted to share the experience!

These mushrooms appear to be Jack O' Lanterns. Against the dark wet log, they seemed to glow, making for a pretty cool picture. I'm not sure what seasons Jack O' Lanterns grow, or if they grow year-round...but these guys are definitely awesome none-the-less!

Not too far away from the "Jack's" were various groups of small tan mushrooms, as seen above, and below.

Then of course we have a lovely black ball of slime, Exidia glandulosa I assume.

The classic "little brown mushrooms".

Hardly uncommon behind the house, but no less interesting were these little white guys:

Probably the most interesting find, which I damn near overlooked were these small white guys. I nearly didn't get a picture thanks to a dying camera battery.

About a 15 minute drive away behind my grandparents home, I found these tiny guys, which looked like little targets!

If only I had known the ID essentials when I came across all these mushrooms. In any case, hindsight is always 20/20, and I am just happy to have had such a great first hunt. I enjoyed taking the pictures, and equally fun was sketching them in ink for the artshow!
I'll post artwork some other time.
Here's to many, many, many more great outings! Hope you all enjoy the pictures!

Nice set of pics.
What kind of camera do you use?
Do you have to resize the images to be able to upload them all here, or are they just normally that small from the camera? They look like good quality images but are kind of small.

I see two different species of active mushrooms in your post. Nice finds.

No I do not think the last photo is of an active mushroom. It looks like Tubaria furfuracea.
Here is a post with some photos from another members finds a few months past.

Eris - I use an old digital camera by Sony, called the FD Mavica. It uses floppy disc! It's a good camera, but unfortunately my battery is dying in the PERMANENT sort of way, so I need to look into getting another rechargable battery for the camera.
As for resizing, I'm a paying member of flickr, and I purposely keep the photos small on here. I can provide larger images if needed, but the copies I saved to my computer are all smaller in size.
Actives? I had no clue. Unfortunately, I have no plans with actives. Which one's are suspected to be active anyway? Not that I intend on even trying them, but just for future reference?

The orange ones look like gyms (but we couldn't rule out jack-o-lanterns just from the pics could we)? The last picture looks like it could be Psilocybe caerulipes. There even looks to be some bluing on the base and on the cap. I'm not 100% sure on either of those IDs though so don't quote me. We'll wait till Shroomydan has let us stew in our anticipation long enough to let us know

I'm not sure if these help, but here are more pictures of the controversial mushrooms. Again, I'm not particularly expecting any sort of ID, but since some of you seem to be drawing conclusions based on photos, have at it!

I wonder what the odds are of finding either of these species again? June temperatures aren't all that far off from July, so why not?

The photo matches the description of P. caerulipes.
Yeah I notice dark blue at the base of the stipe, unless my eyes deceive me, and a partial veil.
Keep an eye out for those. If you can remember that spot, doodler, you should try to find more, and try to give a full description on those.

Can you post a few more pics of this mushroom or a similar specimen?? Pics of the gills, specifically. I realize the one in the original photo may have dried up since you found it, were there more of these same type and if so, do you remember where you found them?

Unfortunately, at the time these pictures were taken, I wasn't aware of all the necessities for proper ID. As expected, I don't expect an ID, however, they are in one of my favorite mushroom hunting spots (which I will be visiting in the next day or so) so I'll be on the lookout.
The only mushroom that even closely resembled these guys from that hunt, are these:

Even as a novice though, I don't suspect these mushrooms are of the same variety. No "ring" around the stem, different coloration, color patterns, etc. It's just a complete stab in the dark.
I can tell you that these mushrooms were all found here in central Pennsylvania.
I'm on the lookout now, so hopefully I can post better pictures soon.

Sorry for the double post, but I've enlarged the pictures to assist anyone who is trying to ID them:

Maybe that will help.

All of those photos are showing little boxes with "x" in them.... I'll look in your gallery to see if I can find the photos. Otherwise, can you fix the links?
