Cool mist external resevoir?
    #5868736 - 07/17/06 09:49 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

I just got a brand new cool mist. It's one made for medium sized rooms. Im going to be adding it to my martha later today.

My question is this. It says that it will run continuously for 18 hours. I really don't want to have to be putting water in it every 18 hours. My plan is to buy a 3 gallon jug from walmart and put it on the shelf above the cool mist and run some fish tank tubing from the jug directly into the resevoir on the cool mist. Making it a total of 5 gallons therefore it should be able to run for approx 45 hours before needing to be refiled.

Does anyone foresee any issues with this plan?

has to be filled everyday
has to be cleaned almost as often

and wicking type humidifiers require that the water resevoir be
air tight to work properly.

if you put a hole in that container and not seal it air tight after...

you'll have lots of flooding to worry about too.

that thread is about solving drips?

Why would it honeslty need to be cleaned out every 18 hours?  Nothing that i know of is going to form that fast not to mention i would add a little bit of H202 to the water..  I mean i could be wrong.  Also this humidifier has some option on it that after it runs dry it switches into sanitizing mode (unless canceled), where it stops blowing and it heats the wick filter for 45 minutes to "sanitize" it.

I was planning on making an airtight seal on the external resevoir and the tubing.  I could tell it needed to be airtight by they way they seal the resevoir on it so i figured i'd need to be carefull.

?? :crazy2:

I own that humidifier.

it will not even come close to sanitizing itself.

all wicking type humidifiers are asking for trouble.
they are bacterial breeding grounds.

and some peroxide, that breaks down quickly, added
to your resivoir, is not going to help anything.

go buy an IMPELLER cool mist.

and add iodine to that water,
plus use micropore tape as your filter cover.

this will work better.

p.s.

I don't see that humidifier getting over 70% humidity either.
the wicking types suck for high humidity.

not even capable of it in my opinion.

What you have there, appears to be a WICK type humidifier.

NOT, an IMPELLER type coolmist.

Even if, yours is called a coolmist

it has 2 outlets on the eyes that could easily have tubing attached to them and run to both sides of the martha.

I read about someone using those OK. You might want to open it up and tighten down the bolts first though. They have problems with loose fans I heard.

Update (not as if anyone truly gives a shit) I picked up the other cool mist form walgreens. I also got some dryer ducting and i attached the ducting and reinforced the side wall of my martha. I plumbed it up and hooked it up about an hour and a half ago and it's now up to 80% RH inside the martha and 60% in the storage closet it's in.
