cool mist humidifier not putting out much humidity...

I have a holmes 2.5 gallon humidifier and for some reason it's not putting out much humidity at all. The filter guage on it says the filter needs replacing, but the whole unit is brand new.
Should the coolmist be able to put out enough moisture to create drips on the wall?
I have a digital hygrometer in the chamber that is showing somewhere between 75% and %HI. I also have an analog hygrometer, whose accuracy has not been verified, that is showing 60%

Bump, my dog has had the same problem. Although it could be that the dew point hasn't been reached within the chamber. Which would mean even if the RH is close to 99% there will be no condensation and it will still have the same effect as if there were condensation. Try lowering the temp. in a bottle with the humidifier connected, there should be condensation, if not I would go to wally world and get a different model.

Myself I?ve never seen a modle that could do it without some kind of help by misting, perlite, whatever.

Way back I use to use a coolmist and never got it to stay up in the 90s. What I did was use perlite and put the cool mist on a timer and used it for air exchange or fanning. The coolmist would exchange the air without lowering the humidity to much.



and it did work.



Was a pain though that?s why I came up with this thing.

Cool mist drops are very tiny and you cant feel it in the air coming out of the tube. Never had any humidity problems with mine. Keeps my humidity around 94%, with perlite.
