hi. i want to know if anyone has tried or heard of anyone using a vaccum packer to preserve their shrooms. I think it would be easier and the mushrooms would keep longer/be more potent. let me know. thanks

yes, the vacume packer would be ideal to store dry shrooms. they can be put in teh freezer(if dry) and kept for years. you can put fresh shrooms in the fridge for a few days. dont freeze fresh shrooms, they will turn to mush!

Is putting them in the freezer really necessary if they are completely dry and vaccume packed?

No, it is not, but it will prolong the self life to years. Without freezing I'm sure they would still last a year with negligible lost in potency.

yes it is necassary for long term storage. even dry shrooms can go bad if they arent in a aitight container of some sort. dry shrooms can take on moisture and still rot or get moldy. a vacume sealer would be perfect for long term storage.

the real question is, is it any worse than freezing them in an airtight container (bag.. vacuum packet etc)

Would it be better to do a double vac. pack? Or is a single vac.pack sufficient? Also, what about those who say that freezing ruptures the cells and therefore will decompose/lose potency? Or does this not go for ones that have been vacpacked?

I have a nice vaccum paker that i got as a present. I store all my dry mushys with it but i don;t store them in the freezer(just never have). But i don;t use it to suck all of the air out, just a little because it tends to crush the shit out of them when you take all the air out. :P I know from experence. But other than that they work wonderful !!
oh yeah and i only use one sealed bag not two the bags are really thick
