Try searching the internet for Panaeolus foenisecii(foes) and Panaeolus subbalteatus(subbs). Foes and subbs look practically identical, the way to tell the difference between the two species is by making a spore print of each mushroom. Foes, which are inactive (not "worth anything") will have a brown spore print, while subbs which are mildly active ("worth something") will drop a jet black spore print.

You should try to remember that Panaeolina foenisecii Maire is the correct name for the mushrooms you keep referring to as Panaeolus.
Panaeolina has four species inteh genus. IT has chocolate brown spore prints.
Panaeolus subbalteatus has 22 known species. 11 are active and 11 are not. They have black spore print.
Please try not to keep furthering the misidentification of mycological names of shrooms if you do not have knowledge of the nomencalture of the species.
The reason some have labeled it as apanaeolus is that several mycologists in the late 1800s and early 1900s all named it form different parts of the world as several diffe4rent species. whether it was Panaeolus foenisecii or Psilocybe foenisecii, or Psathyrella foenisecii, it's actual name is Panaoilina foenisecii Maire.

Yes, I was under the impression that "Panaeolus" and "Panaeolina" were synonymous for the same genus. Sorry for the out dated info. So then, I m confused by one thing: "Panaeolus subbalteatus has 22 known species." Panaeolus subbalteatus is a species, how can it encompass 22 seperate species? You mean Panaeolus, the genus, not Panaeolus subbalteatus, right?
Thank you for this information. I was unsure until now, which genus name was the most appropriate, as the genus "Panaeolus" gets thrown around a lot, it seemed to me to be the widely excepted name, little did I realize that these two mushrooms bearing such strong semblance to one another were in fact, not even within a common genus! Hehehe.
