Light Purple Tuba Mushroom
    #5801494 - 06/29/06 12:11 AM (17 years, 7 months ago)

Habitat: Found deep in the woods, growing on a fallen tree.

Gills: Straight up to opening, white.

Stem: Seems that "gills" run down the stem, whitish.

Cap: Opening like a tuba horn, light purple inside turning into a light yellow at the bottom.

Spore print color: I don't know how to do this.

Bruising: Don't know how to do this either.

Location: Picked in Maryland.

Looks like a kind of paxilus, IMO. What was it growing on? Were there others?

For a spore you just cut the stem off with some scissors or any tool you choose and set the cap on a piece of paper for 24 hours. Then look and see what you have. For bruising, just pinch the stem and wait a bit, sometimes even seconds.

It also looks a little like something in the genus of Panus... P. rudis perhaps.... a spore print would distinguish Paxillus from Panus.

have fun

Because of the shape of this mushroom, you may need to lay it on it's side to get a spore print... Maybe not, cut the stem off and try it out. gills must be facing down towards the paper.

I am going to do brusing and spore print with it, but I'm wondering is it potentially psychedellic?

Thanks so much!

Hey Pauvro,

Looks like a chanterelle, but it's not, it's Gerronema strombodes.
