I have a few seed (couple hundred) and i was wondering if its too late to plant them outdoors i live in the south... AR... just wondering if poppies would do well here 2

I dont know about that.. Poppies may like sun but they like to get a little dose and then a cold breezy night,. I tried growing poppies this spring, near where ozzy is, and the himdity/heat down sotuh killed them even then!! Oz, wait til September, and plant. They can grow in the fall too. That would be better in your area, Beautiful pods in the snow, I cant think of anything better right now.

I know absolutely nothing about poppies. Will they grow in Tennessee, Usa? Someone, please enlighten me with a link or something.

shroomph, i think they would be better (outdoors at least) to plant in the fall(maybe early september) in the deep south, because they do not like the 80%humidity, 101 degree temperatures of mid-summer. i found this out the hard way...

They will not germinate in temps over 80 degrees ferenheit. They like to germinate in temps from 60-65.

i dont believe this to be the case because i have germinated indoors at temps over 85+. its to late because they will burn out from to much light. as they require low light levels when young. this isnt true indoors because 1000 watts arent that bright to burn them out as seedlings. if they did germinate they wouldnt reach maturity because it would already be to late in the season and light schedules wouldnt fit your plants(hours of light would be droping). im not saying heat doesnt effect the plants but it will make them stretch(length between nodes) and stunted with slow growth.

Will poppies eventually flower according to physiological/mature age, or is the increasing light exposure necessary?
