AMANITA GROWTH?

Hey guys,
I was reading on sporeworks that it is impossible to grow amanita muscaria as it is a parasite and must grow off something else living - is this true? If so , why are they offering spores then?

Amanita family are mycorhizzial and form a symbiotic relationship with the trees around them.

I would guess they are selling them as a novelty item or just as an item of interest to be looked at under a microscope.

I guess you COULD grow them out, as long as you had some sort of tree that you could symbiotically graft the mycelium onto, or however nature does it.  That said, its pretty tough I'd imagine to stuff a root system of a tree into your terrarium.

Well, what if I wanted to innoculate all the evergreen trees here on my campus. That would be awesome to see them growing and go pick them at night.

As far as I knew, the Amanitas grew due to the pines leaves/needles that fall off the trees onto the ground. There's something in them that Amanitas require. So if you made some sort of pine needle substrate then it would be possible.

I may be very, very wrong here so you can go ahead and ignore my stupid disclaimer below. :smile:

The people who cultivate mycorrhizal gourmet mushrooms start them out by innoculating seedlings, tiny baby trees under 6"tall grown from seed. They dip the roots in a specially prepared root dip.

It's got nothing to do with leaves and needles.

You could try direct root innoculation and maybe see something in 10 years.

Try making about 100 gallons of honey mycelium going,
Then Spray it from an airplane over vast pine forest lands,
Then wait about 10 years like the captain said, and mayby youll have some.
