post editing policy

could we please make it against the rules / impossible for a member of staff to edit someone's post without an Edited by: subtitle?

it's very invasive to put words in someone's mouth, even over a trivial matter, and I'm not sure why it's necessery for the staff to be able to edit posts without people knowing they've been edited

I'm still waiting for an example since I double-checked the code and it should not be possible for anyone but an admin to edit a post without marking it as edited.

You may want to double check the code...sometimes it is possible to ninja edit a post. (not that I've ever done that of course)
It would be impossible for him to prove since there would be no trace of it.
It doesn't happen with every post though...appears to be random....sometimes the "Mark as edited" option is there and sometimes it isn't.
If it is there, one would just need to uncheck that...kind of like I just did with this post.

Well either the code doesn't work or admins have been doing it in otd and Rono gets the credit.

I had to edit out something before.. I didn't have to option to not mark it as edited.

The "mark as edited option" was missing, it automatically did it.

Yeah the problem was related to the 5 minute window when we allow people to edit a post without marking it. Mods got the option for any user as long as the post was new.

He does it on purpose in otd, he edits it to say stuff that will make the poster sound gay and shit like that.

it's OTD, it's mod humor, I edited a couple of posts by admins to get a few laughs
I even banned thor, that made me giggle, I dont think thor was amused.

it's not regular behavior for any of us, I rarely see an OTD edit by Rono and when
I do it's always marked as such
