Mushroom Kit on Hay Casing Help.. .... Newbie

This friend of mine has a mush kit and he keeps a heating pad underneath plywood, which is underneath the mushkit. So what I was wondering was if I kept the heating pad on it 24/7 is that bad for it? It has developed a smell just recently, as well as what appears to be mycellium growth. Is this smell bad. It's almost like a rotting smell. Thanks

If it smells it is most likely bacteria growing and the added heat helps it grow(spread faster)
Heating from the bottom up is bad.
What will happen is you will go to check one day and find a brick of dry crumbly what ever you were using the heating pad under. (i.e. brf and verm cakes & casing material)
