Dropping lbs, have a question.
    #5749604 - 06/14/06 12:58 PM (17 years, 7 months ago)

How fast will I cut fat by eating nothing but rice cakes and water/iced tea for a month? I don't want malnourish myself...I normally eat like a pig but recently it seems I've dropped a little weight, possibly from my job change. I'd like this to continue and at a faster rate. I don't have an eating disorder or anything, I'd just like a big drop before some summer events. I plan to do this for a month so I'd really like to know what will happen to me throughout this period. Any tips?

The only way to actually lose weight is to reduce your caloric intake and to increase your level of exercise.

What you don't want is to reduce your nutritional intake to an extreme that your body thinks that you're starving, because it will make extreme efforts to conserve its stored energy (i.e. your ass). Eat small meals, exercise every day or so, and try to eat healthy food (lots of fruits, veggies, and whole grains is a good way to think about it). Drink lots of water too.

I already got the exercise covered. One day at my job is like an hour and a half at the gym. I just want to do this for a month, and I'm curious how much I'll actually lose.

My next concern:

Once the diet is over, will I blow back up? I mean will it all come back just from eating other things or from how much I'm eating? Once the weight is off, I'd like to keep it off by eating more sensibly.

just make sure you are losing(burning) fat and not just reducing your water retention

I'm already losing it, I mean I can already notice things fitting better over the past 2 months...it's pretty cool as I've always been a little chunky. I'm 6' even and used to weigh almost 300. I have to be down to at least 260 by now.

you will deff gain back hon. I am on weight watchers, and I have learned soo much from being on it. I also know a lot seeing my husband is a cook for the army. We study things together to make sure I am still eating healthy but able to help me lose weight. as said goobler, make sure you drink lots of water and eat negative caloric foods which you can get a list of them online. things like broccoli and lettuce and LOTS of others. these are things that have low calories so when you chew and eat and digest the calories pretty much disolve anyway but you are still eating healthy. I had a breast reduction done in december of this year. my plastic surgeon told me you don't want to lose more than 1-3 pounds at the most a week. Becuase your elasicity in your skin will be damaged by doing so. And yes once you start to stop your regiment you will blow up to a point....unless you have damaged your body!!!
good luck and be smart about it.

Also, I smoke bud and I heard that the reason you get the munchies is because your metabolism speeds up and your body wants you to eat. Is this true? If I ignored the excess hunger from the pot, and continued my diet as normal, will that help burn the fat as well?

If you eat that menu you will lose all your muscle and by the time your low enough weight you will still be pudgy. I advise eating higher protein meals egg whites chicken lean beef beans etc, mixed with good carbs brown rice, certain wheat breads etc.

More or less of a stoner myth. I won't debate anything about metabolism, but cannabinoids stimulate g-proteins in areas of your brain that control appetite. Simply getting baked and fending off the temptation is going to be torture, lol

But don't dodge meals, break them up instead. Add up the calories from each day as best you can, find an average after doing this for a week and take this figure with a grain of salt. Subtract anywhere from 300-500 cals from this daily average and start here. If you eat 3-4 meals a day, split this up into 5-6 or 6-7 smaller meals (and remember, fewer calories). The fat should start coming off of you slowly but surely. Drink lots of water as well. I would say anywhere from 1.5 - 2.5 gallons a day judging from your weight. It might sound like a lot, but I'm only 160lbs and I drink 2g a day and might benefit from even more. If you're eating properly, you shouldn't have to worry about low levels of electrolytes. Make sure you're taking a multi and get a variety of foods in and there's nothing to worry about. You're not doing anything extreme, and you shouldn't have to.

If you go overboard with this, you'll lead to catabolism. If you wanna lose weight but actually starve your body and rob your muscles from the nutrients they desperately need during your cut... then you're doing just that, robbing yourself and obsessing about numbers. If you want to cut weight without screwing yourself up, just eat more meals and less crap. You'll slowly cut weight and get your bf% down. It's not until you get to around 10% bf where it gets increasingly tricky to cut fat.

I know a lot of people who've tried to properly lose weight and drop 20lbs easily, and I know lots of people who've cheated themselves and also shed 20lbs in the same amount of time. The second group usually stops before achieving their goals because they're jumping from one radical fat loss idea to the next. IMHO, you shouldn't starve yourself or get into a carb-loss/ketogenic and malnourished state. Losing fat's easy when you have a lot of it. I've lost a ton of fat on bulks, but it's losing those last few pounds that gets insanely tricky.

Do your own research too... I am by no means an expert, I just have a bit of personal experience and a lot of success with coaching friends and coworkers. Take what I say with a grain of salt and just try to always think fit. Good luck to ya!

Like others have said eat alot of protein and good carbs like whole grains and what not. Eat about 6 small meals a day and drink a ton of water. If you count the amount of calories you eat a day you'll probably realize you eat more than you think so just keep track and then adjust the amount you eat appropriately.

Mhm.

Just adding up and finding your caloric averages will make you cognizant about what you're putting into your body. You'll probably make subtle changes without even noticing it.

I've been eating lighter meals spread further throughout the day. For instance I'll have some fruit for breakfast, a salad for lunch, and maybe chicken or a plain hamburger or two for dinner. It's working pretty well so far, it feels like my stomach has shrunk because I find myself getting fuller faster.

That's good dude. I love it when you feel like your stomach's smaller and it's easier to satisfy.

Yeah but at the same time it confuses me because I feel like I overdid it. I used to eat until I was full, so I gotta tell myself, "Your stomach is smaller, you didn't pig out.".

problem w/ most food is eating until you are full...thats liable to last for several hours.

you can be hungry and eat a steak and still be hungry.

True..

I basically look at meal portions and know how many calories, carbs, fat and protein I'll be consuming. But yeah, portion control's hard to gauge with your gut.
