Why I Hate UBB
    #5739921 -

What I hate most about UBB, aside from the absence of threaded-by-default layout, is that there is no simple way to see which threads I've participated in that have been updated.

Granted, I can open the list of my posts but those links are to my specific replies. If I come back in a day it'll be bold but that just means I haven't viewed that specific post yes. If I click on it, I'll see my own post which is useless because I already know what I wrote.

The result is that people will reply to my posts asking for help or clarification and I might easily miss it. I recently came across a post of mine from 6 weeks back that someone had asked a question in and it was by dumb luck that I saw it at all.

So does anyone know how to query UBB to see which posts of mine have had replies after my last (most recent) reply?

The problem isn't the bold font, the problem is the bold-ness refers to whether or not I've seen THAT specific post (useless, since I'm the one who wrote it), not whether or not the thread has been updated since I last added something to the thread. It does me absolutely no good to know that I have not yet read the post I, myself, just made.

When I'm on these forums, I have an interest in two types of posts:

1) Threads with interesting titles that I haven't seen yet (easy to see in UBB).

2) Threads I've contributed to and have been updated since then. (AFAIK, impossible to see in UBB)

In short, my disdain for UBB would disappear if I could figure out how to accomplish #2.

PS: Good luck with your project, zippoz.

You can set this to be the case in your personal settings.

Anno writes:

Yeah, I tried that but since it isn't set as default and virtually nobody replies to the correct message, it pretty much did no good at all.

But Anno, how can I see a list of any threads I've participated in that have been updated since I last read the thread? I'm stunned that UBB doesn't have this functionality because (a) any regular would benefit from such a feature and (b) most BBS-esque software has such a feature.

My first order of business when I hit Shroomery's board is to follow up with any questions or replies to posts I've made. As it stands, I'm forced to open every post I've participated in. This has two problems. First, it requires way more effort than is necessary since most threads I open haven't had updates since I last posted. Second, if someone posts a reply to something I wrote a week after I replied to that thread I'm almost certainly not going to see it.

I agree and completely sympathize with your sig, Jim, but since threaded mode isn't set by default, nobody uses it. Most people don't even know the difference between replying to a specific post and replying to the last message because the default is flat mode.

Setting mine to threaded mode might be a nice gesture but it seems like tilting at windmills.

And even if threaded mode was set by default and actually used, that doesn't necessarily help me with the fact that there is still no way for me to see which threads have been updated since I left a post. So far as I know, anyway.

There's an option in your home so that the system will send you an email when one of your posts is replied to, but other than that,
