I've never been on a cruise, but I had a friend who used to go all the time, and he swore by them. It probably depends on a lot of things like how outgoing you are with strangers. Being social is really important on a cruise, if you're going single...

We get cruise ships in my town. Here's a picture of one taken from my studio window...

I've done two of them with my wife's family. The smaller and older boat you can get, the better. The newer boats just have more cabins and the same amount of dining and lounging space, elbow to elbow with the Christian Gamblers. Food is good, there's always buffets and cheeseburgers, the formal dining is not for me. But if you don't like the plate you get, be sure to send it back. Beer is like $5 a piece. Fill a shampoo bottle full of whiskey to get it through security. There's an added $50/day gratuity that you can have adjusted. They treat the employees like shite. Poke around on-line, there's beach houses you can rent for like $1200/week that are actually much better deals.

What are your port stops? Costa Maya, Mexico is great, take some of the ancient ruins tours if you go. I wouldn't even get off the boat in Ocho Rios, Jamaica if I were you. Georgetown, British West Indies is nice be sure to get the cheap tour and head over to the turtle farm. You can bring as much weed as you want back from the port stops but get rid of it before you get back to the US, because they bring drug dogs on the boat at the FL ports.

It's just a big exploitation of people and the environment, but have fun.

food is usually included - at least 2 meals a day

I've seen many people break out into tears when they get the bar tab for the trip.

They provide you with a "credit card" when you arrive onboard.

I've seen bar tabs well into the thousands.

dude, the frikin booze is what gets ya, they don't remind you that you have to pay for it later, they frikin shove margaritas down your throat and shit... but hey, i didnt yuse carnival, i used a dam ship... the amsterdam of holland america...

Ive been on a few different cruise lines and I must say carnival is the worst of the lot. The main thing is the food which is slop. Youd be much better off on Relebrity,Royal Carribean, Holland America or even Disney.

From what I have been told Carnival is more for the family. If you have a wife and kids then you would love the cruise line. Personally, I went on Norwegian (the spelling might be off) and I had a blast. Met some really cool people and had a lot of fun with some girls I met.

I had a blast. I was on Carnival Miracle, and couldnt have had a better ship experience. The booze is really expensive, but that didnt stop my aunt and I from being trashed 24/7. Cute girls to talk to, and they have buffets every hour on a different floor. You will have fun.

I've been on Carnival. Not the best of the lot IMO. I go on Royal Carribean all the time now. Been on half a dozen or so cruises with them and they are pretty good. Not top of the line but good ships, nice service, decent prices, and lots of options. I think some of the more high-end cruise lines seem a little too stuffy. I like to feel relaxed, and I seem to get a good combination of high-class service with a relaxed atmosphere on Royal Carribean.

Once on board you won't pay for any food. 3 meals a day served in the dining room, various other eateries open throughout the day, and special buffets at some times (midnight by the pool, for example). Also you can get room service around the clock. But if you drink (and I do) be prepared for a serious bar tab. I've personally racked up a tab of nearly $2000 in 2 weeks by myself. But its all part of the experience and I just plan on it.
