Homestead's EZ-Gro?
    #569370 - 03/04/02 09:18 AM (14 years, 9 months ago)

Hello:
I'm a complete newbie and although I reading everything I can find about mushroom growing, I have ordered this kit for a first experience.

Now that I've found these boards and I see no mention of this company or this kit, I've become a bit nervous.

I hope it's not a complete ripoff, is it?

Thanks

It works and could give you 30 grams or so in six weeks. If it dosnt work they give you a new one. OR for the same 108 you could buy a pressure cooker, 3 dozen quart mason jars, 100 filterdisks, some rye or millet, an aquarium heater, 30 gallon clear rubbermaid container, and 4 EQ syringes with some laft over for gas and parking.

The kit probably works, at least according to the few people who have stated here that they bought it. The problem is the price. Once you find a board like this one, you can do everything like the kit for pennies on the dollar. Actually you can do it better for pennies on the dollar. So far as I know, the kit is a rip-off in value, but not a rip-off as in a scam. You don't hear much about kits on the boards, cuz most of them not only offend us with the prices, but also the ridiculous claims. LIke

OK, I guess I was never successful, cuz I didn't pay out the wazoo for a namebrand? I guess I must have just stolen my avatar off of the net from someone who did use a homestead kit!? I guess that the PF tek is just a shortcut and a scam, right? Dung brothers must not work at all, nor does the hydrapod, huh? Whatever! Vendor propaghanda pisses me off.

You should get fruits, but DIY next time. Good luck.

there are easier and cheaper ways to grwo that produce much better results than a kit. but it seemsy ou got the worst of the kits you could have bought. i got a homestead kit a few years ago, it sucked ass!! also the spore print was the shityest one ever!! it was very light and nothing ever germinated, nothing. i bet they have prints they have had for years......old fuckers

follow the PF tek youll be fine

Not in defense of homestead, or kits, but they have a new kit now that is much different from the old one. It's much more like dung brothers. I think it's basically a bag of grain, innoculated with syringe and spawning a bag of compost. I'm not saying it's good or anything, but certainly easier for a beginner than their "classic" kit.

I used the homstead kit my first time too .It worked just fine although I now know how to spend my money more wisely. you can buy the whole kit for less than 40 bucks buy going thru vendors and stores by your house. you can get the bags of sterelized rye from bluethumbs siteand cow poo( or get poo from farmers supply store just make sure it's pasturized or sterelized for about 3bucks per 50 pounds) there are lots of spore vendors here also. you can get rubbermaid tub from just about any store. I had good success w/ homestead(still a rip Off)just remember to be clean when doing anything w/ the kit(take a shower before and wash clothes in washing machine , clean room you will be working in,I also spray lysol and allow it to settle)but since I now know how to reproduce the kit inexpensively I can triple the amount of shrooms I would get from 1 ez grow kit. But it was still great to get shrooms my first time growing!!! good luck

Oh well, live and learn. Too bad I didn't find these boards before I ordered.
I will report on this kit if anyone is interested.
Hopefully it won't be too bad. I'll try a tek next time.

Thank you all

I made the same mistake myself on a kit. It did work, but I quickly switched to more conventional methods.

Might as well report on it. In fact, detailed notes and pictures would be a good idea to post as a reference to others. Kind of a "buy it if you want it, this is what it is" type thing. Anybody who sees the report will also see the 100+ comments of how to do it cheaper. But some people are dead set on kits...
