just before the veil breaks the mushroom is at its peak for potency. lets say i have ashroom that is about to break its veil, as it matures it will be just as potent right? just not get anymore potent? or does it lose potency?

well, from what i learned, reading....as soon as the veil breaks, and the following hours thereafter, potency is lost exponentially. Picking a shroom as it is just on the cusp of breaking the veil, gives lower 'Birth Weights', but higher highs. More visual, and colourful. The shroom will only gather "magic' for just so long, then it puts all its energy into making the fruit section of the shroom. If you have a small shroom with 5x the potency of a fatty, whats the point.of waiting for it to get bigger- no one eats 'em for the flavor- Mature shrooms are only good for making spore prints, in my opinion. Young Adults are better. OoD

The production of psilocybin gets less and less till its' none. So right after the viel breaks its the best weight to psilocybin ratio.

Yet one has to present some proof for these theories.

Exactly Anno!! I say it everytime I read all this kind of stuff. Can someone out there prove to me that psilocybin mushrooms stop producing alkaloids at the point of the veil breaking? I cant believe that a fruit would stop producing alkaloids before it is fully mature - and i know that its potency does not begin to decline until after sporalation. Different spore races of cubensis' veils break at different periods - sometimes the veil breaks early before the gills are even darkened, other times not until right as they sporalate.

I also agree. Logically the breaking of the veil would should have no significance. Though i am confused on the consensus of sporulation. Is it that when sporulation occurs, alkaloids are broke down or do they end production? Im quite sure its the ladder, but ive heard otherwise.

I remember when my friend and i were picking cyans and we decided to pick those old and ugly black fuckers when the nice fruits were all eaten - we still tripped on them I dont see the fruits staining blue after sporelation, and due to Cubensis' high psilocin content, if the stuff is oxidising rapidly it should go blue. I think that production stops when the spores are dropping and the fruit itself nolonger has a purpose.

If it turns out that they do slow down in psilocybin production, it would make sense because the mushroom has to turn its energy towards spore production once the veil tore. Also, it's not that potency is being lost...it's just being "diluted"

Ive wondered about that myself. Especially the mycelium below if full of mycelium. Have their ever been any lab type testing done on this, or is this based on people having eaten them and giving their opinions?
