little problem w/ dung, need advice

ok, I made a bag of spawned dung w/ birdseed.
problem: the bag is starting to grow mushies and the bag is not colonized completely.
I don't think I put enough grain in it to begin w/ so I'm pretty sure that's why it hasn't colonized by now.
Should I let the existing mushies grow, pick them, and then take out of bag and case. Should I pick them now and case, or should I pick them now add more grain and case? I have some more colonized birdseed so that wouldn't be a problem except maybe w/ contams.
Any advice would be great!

The substrate (dung) may have dried out to much in that area uncolonized. So In a clean place you should cut off the uncolonized part and then put in a grow chamber right away to keep from getting aborts and such. Now that its started fruiting, you need to go ahead and let it. bluhoney

Thanks for the advice! I don't think that the uncolonized part is because of dryness, although it could be that the dung is too wet. Do you suggest that after I let it fruit that I case after the first flush.
BTW I checked the bag every day and now the biggest one is 3" tall and this is the first time I've seen it. Apparently I wasn't checking them thoroughly enough, but none the less they are shooting up!
Oh, one more thing. I also have another filter patch bag of dung that is also not all the way colonized. I put more grain in the unfruiting bag than the fruiting bag, and I also believe that the moisture content on the unfruiting bag is just right. BUT it is taking a while to colonize, do you think it would be a good idea to throw in another pint of birdseed just so it will be colonized all the way before it fruits too?

After the first flush case it with a 50/50 or similiar casing. Professional mushroom growers contend that the casing layer plays a big role in large even fruit, but my firend has had great success both ways. Your other bag, if you are absolutely sure the slow colonization isnt due to a contaminiant, then add the other jar. bluhoney
