My Shrooms don't want to grow on the rice cakes?

Ive finnaly managed to get a dose off my cakes and tripped out nicely yesterday. However all the shrooms that grew didn't grow on the rice cake. Instead they grew from where the Mycilium (spelling?) had spread over the jar lid they are sitting on in the terranium. Is this normal and willl they get enough food this way through the network?

5:30 in the morning is the most boring time of the day, anyways if they were growing then i guess that means they were getting nutrients, the mycelium is kinda like roots, the nutrients and water just flows through them
