Help me set up a new (old) Hard Drive

#5632587 - 05/15/06 01:26 PM (20 years, 4 months ago)

I have a hard drive that i pulled out of my old computer that wont turn on anymore, and im trying to install it as a second drive on this other system which has a hard drive in it and is running fine. I've hooked up all the cables and set the jumpers to master and slave, and in the BIOS/Set-Up screen, both drives are recognized. However when I load windows (98) the second drive isn't shown. I've read articles on how to do this, but they mention formating the new drive, which to me means erasing all the data on it, which i need. Can anyone who's done this kind of stuff help me out? Can i format this new drive to be recognized as a letter without erasing everything?
Thanks
