Feeding plants carbonated water?

Has anyone ever thought of this? Would it be benificial in any way to give plants carbonated (sparkling) water in place of normal water? Isn't c02 benificial to roots?

I would think that pouring acid onto your plants is not a good idea.
Carbon dioxide, when dissolved in water, forms carbonic acid. Carbonic acid is the stuff that makes acid rain so nasty. And acid rain seems to have a tendency to harm plants.

Actually, I have seen grow videos that suggest spraying your plants with CO2 water. I used pellegrino a few times. It didn't harm the plants, but I switched to just having live yeast cultures present with all my (perfectly legal house) plants.
"Scientists discovered, and have confirmed, that sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) are the primary causes of acid rain. In the US, About 2/3 of all SO2 and 1/4 of all NOx comes from electric power generation that relies on burning fossil fuels like coal." "Acid rain occurs when these gases react in the atmosphere with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form various acidic compounds. Sunlight increases the rate of most of these reactions. The result is a mild solution of sulfuric acid and nitric acid." "Normal rain is slightly acidic because carbon dioxide dissolves into it, so it has a pH of about 5.5" EPA website
I'm thinking its okay according to this info as well as my successful trails.

Uh actually Oxygen is benefical to roots, not c02, just a little FYI

The leaves are where carbon dioxide is absorbed. So, I'd imagine spraying the leaves with the carbonated water couldn't hurt.
I was just thinking of thoroughly watering with carbonated water, when I suggested it might be bad. I have to think that would really mess with soul pH.

I agree, I haven't done this nor do I have any data, but I can't see this being good for the root system. I guess I didn't realize this person was thinking of putting the carbonated water into the soil. (As I thought most people were aware of the basic of basics that roots need o2 and leaves need CO2)

I have done this several times maybe every 4-5 weeks, spraying the plants but not feeding it because of reasons mycogirl said, with carbonated water, cannabis most often but also salvia, tomatoes and whatever. I also monitor my plants pH levels all the time and spraying the leaves have not affected pH levels in soil. Its difficult to say exactly how much the plants benefits from this misting, but I am positive its some. there is either way no negative effects i have noticed.

Don't we already fuck with our soil's pH a lot? So if it DID mess with soil pH, couldn't we just add something else as a buffer?

Buffers are a neat thing...
the way they work is that they actually change the amount of ions present in solution in response to attempts to change pH. Their mere presence actually regulates the pH. The buffer solution changes itself in attempt to keep the pH the same.
They don't work indefinitely though, eventually the buffer gets used up and the pH starts changing again.

You guys will be keeping everything within a normal pH range anyway. Aeration displaces co2 out of water - just like shaking a bottle of coke, and spraying on the leaves probably displaces a lot of it.
Watering with Co2 water will drop the pH, and its probably worse than normal water as its lowering the oxygen content, although I dont think roots use much oxygen. Isnt carbonate a buffer on its own?
By all means try it - its probably not gonna be noticably bad or good, there are more effieient things to try.

Would CO2 water be more beneficial for cacti then?
