poisonous cope lookalike needed.
    #5551020 -

ok yesterday me and a friend went huntin and my friend found what look to be picture perfect copes, even with the little brown spot on top and everything growing right out of dung. we took a spore print and it turned up black on all shrooms. what i need to know is are there any possible poisonous lookalikes that grow in dung and look just like copes and could i see a pic too please. i do have pics but they are poor quality they will be up in a sec. they only bruised bluish on the cap however, the stems mostly turned a dark brown after drying out and handling.

Gilled....BLACK spore print.....DEFINATE.....NO TWO WAYS about it.....clearly BLUE bruising reaction......in DUNG......NOT poisonous.....

You probably dont want to eat it anyway if not bruising blue with those characteristics......of course Subbs often dont bruise BLUE

most Panaeolus can at variing different stages can sometimes be almost indistinguishable from each other without the bluing as can Psilocybe

Pics of wild Panaeolus.cyanescens (Copelandia cyanescens) :

If they look like that, and bruise blue upon handling, with jet-black spores, you got yourself copelandia.

but my question is: what are the poisonous cope lookalikes?
and specifically: ones that inhabit dung.

Panaeolus antillarum looks like them and grows from dung, often times in the same field as Copes. While not poisonous, they might give you the shits if you eat them. Thats all I can think of.

I might be wrong, but I think it's too early for Copes. GG, what do you say?

There are no wild mushrooms growing in manure which are poisonous and which resemble Copelandia cyanescens or any of its 12 varients.

There are Panaeolus antillarum shrooms in manure which resemble Copelandia cyanescens but they are harmless if eaten and are generally not good or meaty to be a food item.

Remember though that Copelandia cyanescens can also grow in open grounds where manure has been spread and there could be poisonous shroooms in that kind of habitat.

However, in thirty years the closest I have come are the three deadly species of Galerina and the lone Conocybe filaris, the first three can resemble Psilocybe cyanescens and Psilocybe fimetaria/stuntzii, etc. The latter could look like a sick liberty cap. Both grow in lawns and in woodchips, not in manure.

Chrlorophyllum molybdites (Also called 'green gills' and Morgan's Lepiota} superficially resemble Psilocybe cubensis, but only because of its big meaty cap but the colors and spore colors are different form onwe another.

You should be looking for black spored shrooms for Copelandia/Panaeolus mushrooms and for chocolate to chocolate/purple-brown spore color for cubes.

All of that data is posted in the friggin faq here at the Shroomery and in the Shroomery's Ultimate Shroom Guide in the sticky at the top of the page in the Shroom Hunting Forum. Read up and quit asking the same questions all the time along with everyone else who doesn't bother to read the FAQs
