The advantage of rolling a cake in dry verm?

I was just wondering what the advantage of rolling a colonized cake in dry verm before birthing would be? Does it allow the cake the breathe more when it starts pinning and maturing? I know the verm doesn't supply the cake with nutrients to grow, so it must be used for the cake to breathe bettter correct?
Also if I rolled my cake in dry verm, how would I sterilize the verm first? Because I don't want to waste a bunch of cakes if they get contamed

You dont want to roll the cake in dry verm.. you want to dunk then roll it in some moist verm... It helps hold in moisture... Don't worry about sterilizing the verm...

the point of rolling is for that verm. to hold in moisture dunking will give the cake more moisture if need be
if u want to sterilize verm. just put some in a couple jars and boil the jars like you would if it were a pf jar and when i say boil dont over fill the pot of water to the top of the jars make sure the water line does not reach to the top of jars you dont want extra water sneaking in
..or if u have a PC u can Pc the jars of verm at 15 psi for an hour either way that would a way to sterilize verm for rolling or casing.. jars of verm. in a pot with lids and tin foil over them boiled/steamed for atleast an hour or two and they should be good
like he said rolling in just dry verm probaly wont do much but i have found that u can roll in dry verm. as soon as u take the fully colonized cake out the jar and it wont hurt anything
thats what i did and i had decent results

dry verm stick better to a wet cake. then you mist it down to get that dry verm wet.
to sterilize just nuke it must faster, less waste of energy. need some moisture though to use you are liable to get the verm hot enough to melt thorugh whatever you have it in i hear. never has this happend to me but i wouldn't want it too either. 5 mins twice maybe. or just one 5 mins run whatever. some people don't even sterilize. once the cake is 100% colonized its rather resistant to contams. plus there is unlikely to be many conntams hanging atoun in your verm

Rolling in verm is helps the cake to retain moisture and acts as a mini casing layer.
In a nutshell, you'll notice larger fruits and a better pinset.
You can dunk the cakes, roll them in dry verm, then moisten them... or, You can dunk the cakes, roll them in moist verm, and you're done.

I was wondering about this myself, as my Tek doesn't mention anything about rolling (or dunking for that matter). I decided to dunk all 8 of my cakes, and I rolled 4 in moist verm and left 4 unrolled. The cakes haven't been in the FC very long, but I'll let you know if I see a difference between the rolled and unrolled cakes.
