automated terrarium lost electricity, cakes dry

Allison is such a bitch. She knocked out the electricity to my humidifier for several days and my cakes dried out. They were blue and dry when I was able to get to them. I took emergency action by cutting off the outer layer of the cake, and then placing wet vermiculite on bottom and top of the cake. Really fluffy mycelium started growing, but I'm worried that I didn't do enough. Does anyone have any suggestions? For those in the know, what would you have done in this situation? Also, do I leave the vermiculite on top of the cake, or do I need to knock it off for fruiting?

Keep the vermiculite damp. Why cut off the outer layer? That a new tek?

Why cut off the outer layer? I dunno. Psilcybe Fanaticus recommends doing that after the first flush. I was only at the beginning of my first flush, but I guess I thought that it was necessary to stimulate a new flush.

Good news ... A few new pins are poking their way through the vermiculite! Guess I'll keep the vermiculite moist and keep the humidifier on the timer.

yo, i remember reading a 'dunk tek' where you submerge your cake or casing in water
(+ some peroxide id imagine) for a day to rehydrate; the author suggested doing
this after each harvest.

I understand the mycelial body develops an immune reaction to the peroxide
after an initial OUCH!! (slowed colonization/fruiting) If there's any truth to that
wouldnt the peroxide only help?
