MushWorld has provided free, unlimited access to information on mushroom cultivation in a move to achieve its mission : poverty reduction in developing countries through mushroom growing.
We're now trying to better address their needs in mushroom growing by inviting your valuable experience and expertise in mushroom growing in (sub) tropical areas.
1. Themes & examples of possible research topics
Theme 1. Low cost mushroom production in less developed countries or (sub) tropical areas.
- Low cost production methods
- Comparison between the established and the suggested methods in production efficiency (cost & yield is required)
Theme 2. Sustainable spawn production in (sub) tropical areas.
- Strain selection suitable for growing in (sub) tropical areas and culture preservation
- Preferable growing conditions of various strains regarding spawn media, substrate, inoculation, spawn run, pinning and fruitbody development
- Low cost spawn production system
Theme 3. Effective, low-cost pest and disease control in (sub) tropical areas.
2. Awards
1st place - USD $2,000 (1 person or so)
2nd place - USD $1,500 (2 persons or so)
3rd place - USD $1,000 (3 persons or so)
* The awards will be granted based on the merits of the scientifically written paper. * The evaluation committee may elect to select fewer or more awardees. * Award-winning papers may find its way to both MushWorld website and its publication. All the submitted from award winners are copyright to MushWorld. * You should remember that MushWorld will provide the selected papers with the respective prize money after final evaluation, not a research grant.
3. Eligibility
1) The candidates for the Awards are chosen from the submitted proposals to compete for the Awards. Only applicants whose research proposal is accepted will be eligible for the Award. 2) Proposals applied for the other competition / conference / journal publication etc. are not eligible for the Award.
4. Evaluation criteria
They include appropriateness, creativity, originality, accuracy, completeness, effectiveness, contribution, and integrity.
5. Procedure & Important Dates
Applicants should remember
* Selected applicants will be notified by June 1st. They shall receive MushWorld Research Paper Award Contract.
* Successful applicants shall submit 2 progress reports on the given dates and final paper by November 20, 2006. Applicants whose 1st progress report is accepted shall be given $300 USD.
* Punctuality and close contact are strongly recommended during your research, especially unexpected failure or difficulties were encountered.
* Final awardees will be chosen and notified in December 2006. And the prize money will be paid to the respective applicant after deducting $300 USD.
6. Guidelines for Research Proposal
Applicants are requested to download the Research proposal template and fill it up. They may feel free to use more than allotted space, when they feel necessary. To win the competition, research proposal should be as in detail as possible.
