I thought I'd post what I can of an example of the monthly updates you get with your mushworld membership.  I really like the vacuum-soaking method described for shiitake logs;  I remember Moe mentioning doing this to a PF cake and having it suck up all the water in a short time.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear MushWorld Lovers,

September issue of Webzine MushWorld was released. It includes the following topics.

- Vacuum Soaking of Wood Chip Shiitake Lentinula edodes Logs to Reduce Soak Time and Stimulate Mushroom Yield (2) by Daniel J. Royse
His studies demonstrates vacuum soaking is effective in reducing the soaking time and stimulating mushroom yield, with mushroom size offset. Thanks to its quick return through increased product yield, the present vacuum soaking method is quite recommendable where reduced size may not present a problem.

- Chemical and Biological Control of Mushroom Pests and Diseases (2)
by L. Staunton
This month, he gives epidemiology of dry bubble and wet bubble caused by Verticilium fungicola and Cladobotryum dendroides respectively, along with 10 disease control measures.

- Higher Basidiomycota as a Source of Antitumor and Immunostimulating Polysaccharides (Review) (1) by Solomon P. Wasser
Higher Basidiomycota mushrooms (651 species and 7 intraspecitic taxa from 182 genera of higher Hetero- and Homobasidiomycetes), containing biologically active polysaccharides, are unlimited sources of anticancer and immuno-stimulating compounds.

- Farming Exotic Mushrooms in the Forest by Deborah B. Hill
This is a short paper on growing exotic mushrooms in the forest. She, working for University of Kentucky, Lexington, U.S., shows us how shiitake is grown on logs in her place, with detailed illustration and explanation on cost.

- An Economic Strategy to Develop Non-Timber Forest Products and Services in British Columbia (1) by Russel M. Wills
This is final report of 'Forest Renewal BC Project No. PA97538-ORE'. In British Columbia, wild food mushroom is one of the most economically-valuable NTFP (non-timber forest product).

- Wild Edible Fungi Markets in Malawi (7) by Eric Boa
This installment of the series, the author vividly depicts how and what kinds of wild edible fungi are sold by different vendors in 5 different places in Malawi.

- Mushroom Stamp: Russulaceae (3) by Myeong-hee La
This month, she describes 7 species of Lactarius mushrooms: Lactarius deliciosus, L. torminosus, L. piperatus, L. hygrophoroides, L. camphoratus, L. lignyotus and L. acrobiculatus. You can see how these species are different and at the same time, similar.
