ok it seems that my jars have almost completly stopped growing(or a few did) what could cause this to happen? they are @ 86 f and some seem to be growing great, but some did seem to take off really fast at first, but now they seem to have slowed way down.what could cause this?the ones that are slowing down are lipa, my pesas are about 95% and doing great.all the substrate came out of the same batch.well i mixed it 6 jars then another 6 jars.1 of the lipas is about 95% colonized also ,way ahead of the others. do u thyink the lipas slowing down is just the strain.i thought lipas were very fast colonizers.do u think i need to just wait and see what happens?it is day 14 of incoulation.i lost no jars to comtams.but this shit really drives me mad.
thanks

thanx alot, tomatofarmer. Now I'll probably have nightmares about my own jars.
I have no experience with this, but I have read that after mycellium grows for awhile, it produces a build up of carbon dioxide. this slows down growth. are your jars able to breathe? Mine aren't so I may end up having the same problem. If I do, I have considered taking the lid off one or two for a quick air exchange, and use the results to decide if I want to do all of them that way. Don't trust a word I just said. My jars have no holes because I live in the desert, and am worried about the dry air sucking all the juice out of my substrate. If I've said anything innacurate or if I'm doing anything wrong, someone please fix me.

You should loosen the top's and flip the jars....for air exchange.

Did one of your lipa jars (the one that is colonizing quickly) get the leftover substrate from the first batch you mixed? I know when I do more than one set of jars, sometimes I have a little leftover substrate and halfway fill a jar of the next batch. Maybe the first batch had a better water ratio than the second?
Just a thought....it happened to me before when I was stoned and mis-measured my second batch of the night. I shot a little sterile water into the stalled jars and was able to save some of them.

I do have experience with this one, but only on BRF/verm. You should definately start small. when I first tried it, I tried 10 ccs(5 in the center and the rest in my 4 inocculation points. It was to much. I just tried 5 cc just at innoculation points and......hang on, let me go look...........It still smells good and doesn't look too saturated. I don't know how this would pertain to rye, but I hope it helps.

Carbon dioxide doesn?t slow down growth. Mycelium produces it itself and actually needs it for speedy colonisation.
It?s after the colonisation is completed when the mycelium should be kept at low CO2 levels to begin pinning.
Off course the jar shouldn?t be completely sealed, some gas exchange, CO2 out and air in, is necessary, but there is only a very small amount of air coming in, mainly the CO2 goes out since it?s produced in the jar.
Jars stall either because they are too wet or too dry, kept too cold or too hot, or because they are contaminated.
