flipping lipas and cambos
    #526554 - 01/20/02 12:42 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

i have afoaf has 36 1/2 pint jars half are cambos, the other half lipas, the lipas are just about done colonizing, but the cambos have slowed in growth. when my friend experimented, he flipped only one jar, it is now contaminated, and he hasnt lost any jars to contams. since that one jar was flipped, is it neccesary or even worth flipping any other jars to have them subcum to contains? the lipas are almost fully colonized, but like i said the cambos are still going but a little slower, so, should he risk flipping them or should he just wait about 3-4 days to see if the cambos catch up without a flip? any input would be helpful thanx guys!!!

When you flipped the jar the cake sliding down would have sucked up some air. Now, usually the partly colonized cakes are able to fight off most contaminates. Most people flip their jars at 60%ish. Your air must have been dirty.

Moreover, just loosen the jar lids a little. All you need is a little more fresh air exchange you dont need to worry about draining the C02. I dont know why your air might be dirty but personally i've birthed premature cakes in unsterile enviroments and had no contamination problems.

Anyways, good luck.
