Why Do Jars Stall???

Howdy
Just would like to know why jars stall sometimes?
Even when you loosen the lids or whatever stilll sometimes it chooses to just not grow anymore.

They're either too dry (most likely) or too wet.

In additon to what Puscle said...

CO2 buildup in an airtight jar stalls growth. Needs fresh air to complete colonization.

What kind of vermiculite do you use? I used the fine grade verm and my cakes always stalled...I switched to the coarser grade and I have no problems now

But course grade verm does not hold as much water.
Anyway jars stall because: the substrate is too dry
co2 buildup
the substrate is contaminated

Untaping holes does help to regain growth but i think flipping jars is even more important and something everybody should do before concluding on anything else.
