Question about gyms

Ok I really consider this a cruel joke. Ok I go walking around my creek in the woods hoping to come upon some Gyms or something along that line. I look up in a tree and I see high above, golden mushrooms. I get my binoculars out and look up there and I know they are not rotten oysters or any other strand, they are perfectly healthy orange mushrooms. Are these Gyms most likely? Do Gyms even grow that high off the ground? Please gimme a response because if there's even a possibility they're gyms I will climb up that tree, fall, break every bone in my body, and still go after em again if I don't get them the first time!

There are a lot of different kinds of yellow orange mushrooms.
I've been in you situation on more than one occasion. Once the high up mushrooms turned out to be Pholiotas, another time they turned out to be Honey Mushrooms, and another time they turned out to be some hard polypore which I could not identify.
The highest I have seen Gyms is about 7 feet, and I have only seen them growing on dead trees. If your mushrooms are growing from a live tree, then they are probably not Gyms. If the tree is dead, then maybe, maybe not.
Be careful; climbing dead trees is very dangerous!

They can grow high up if the habitat and conditions are right. There are lots of other orange mushrooms that grow from wood though. One way to be sure would be to go get them, but I wouldn't risk breaking my bones over it.

Welp. I guess this is up to fate! (And a really tall ladder I guess. A bit out of shape for climbing)

Yessup has posted a few pics of gyms growing on living trees - live oaks (aka water oaks). So it is possible to see gyms off the ground, but overall it is likely something else.
