I think it was the Psilocybe Azurescens. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

No you are right! Ps.Azurescens is clearly the most potent in terms of levels of psilocybin, psilocin and baeocystin - but from there, number two and three etc.are a bit contentious

Does potency really vary that much at low doses? Such as 1/8 of azures vs 1/8 of liberty caps?

I haven't got experience with liberty caps. But I've found that 4-5 grams of Psilocybe Cubensis is about the equivalent of 1 gram Psilocybe Azurescens. A level 3-4 trip for me. So I'd certainly say that it can make a huge difference. Too bad the taste of Azurescens is worse as well, or else this would be the only mushroom I'd eat since you need so little.

sorry - you are wrong: quote of maxima from Stamets: Ps.Azurescens: 1.78% psilocybin, .38% psilocin and .35% baeocystin. Ps.Bohemica: .96% psilocybin, .02% psilocin and .03% baeocystin. Ps.Cyanescens: 1.68% to .80% psilocybin, .28% psilocin, 0.2% baeocystin. Ps.Seminanceata: 1.12% psilocybin, 0 psilocin and .36% baeocystin. Pan Cyanescens: 0.71% psilocybin, 0.4% psilocin and .01%baeocystin Ps.Cubensis: .50% psilocybin, .25% psilocin And there are many other unstudied psilocybes - pans are the most potent species you can grow easily indoors...

I noticed in Blue Meanie's mushroom stats, that the cubes are the only one that don't seem to have any baeocystin in them. Is that true, and if so, does anyone know if that makes a trip from Cubes different in any way than a trip from a mushroom that contains baeo's? Also, does anyone know how each specific chemical(alkaloid?) affects the trip?

well first of all, psilocybin an d psilocin are the same thing, or at least they might as well be. And since the levels of baeocystin are so small, I'm sure it can't make too much of a noticeable difference. And i've read that baeocystin basically just does the same thing. Then again I probly don't know what the hell I"m talking about.

An important distinction frome a guy that's grown P.Cub. successfully (PF-TEK) but who'se garden's a wasteland: When it comes to Psilocybin equivs. in dried grams of mushroom P.Azurescens takes the cake: I've seen figures up to 26mg/gr somewhere. When it comes to same equivs in fresh grams, the prize goes to rice-grown P.Cubensis topping 1.7mg/gr This due to P.Cub. (and most shrooms) having ~10% dry weight while drying P.Azur. when dried yields only ~5.5% dry shroom. When i was livin in the liberal country of Holland, there were two types of shrooms you could get, mexicans which were pretty DAMM good, and Hawaiins, which were unbelievably mindfucking, the visuals and the intensity of the trip is about 3 times stronger. So, I'm under the impression that the headshops would only sell the top two strongest, and that hawaiin (Copelandia cyanescens) were the most potent shroom.

The reason head shops would only sell pan (copelandia) cyans is because they are relatelively easy to cultivate whereas the more potent shrooms (and they are - check the facts) such as Ps.azurescens, Ps.Bohemica and Ps.Subaeruginosa are hard to cultivate. There are also other alkaloids such as aerugicine and tryptophan (Gartz) that have not been studied

Every two or three months apart this subject comes up for discussion. Again I reiterate that Paul's chart is way off. Dr. Steven Pollock, Jeremy Bigwood, Jonathan Ott and I have seen 6 to 10 peeople get off on a single gram of baby Psilocybe cyanescens from the Seattle Puget Sound region of the Pacific northwest. \One fresh ounce of P. cyanescens with four to sx large specimens will get four to six people high. The same fresh ounce bag with twenty to forty fresh smaller mushrooms will yield between ten to twenty or more doses in a fresh ounce. On the other hand, P. cubensis and Panaeolus subbalteatus are the weakest requiring from one to two grams to as many as five to seven grams dried to get high. That would be one large mushroom weiging in at about one fresh ounce. Or numerous smaller ones equaling the same or more. DR. Gaston Guzman, reported eating over 45 small fresh cubensis in Oaxaca in a ceremony with a Mazatec shaman. P. azurescens is a potent shroom but most collections lose over 60% of their potency in a few months after drying. P. Baeocysits is a very potent shroom requiring one large mushroom or three or four medium size shrooms. They lose more than 75% of their potency when dried.l In Holland the Mexican mushrooms are all P. cubensis, although I caught three shops selling them to people as Psilocybe mexicana. This told me they did not know what they were selling any more than an old lady in Bartels drug store selling someone a five hundred dollar camera doesn't known about the products they sell to people.. The other dutch shroom is of course the Hawaiian Copelandia cyanescens which Erupeans call Panaeolus cyanescens. 7 to ten small shrooms is a potent high for beginners with Copelandia cyanescens but In Hawaii, many users who eat shrooms and surf build a tolerance of from 50 to 200 mushrooms to get off. That two hundred mushrooms could also get twenty people high who never ate them before. And then again, every collection gathered in the wild is different from the same species one might pick across the street from the other across the street. The one shroom which is always reliable are the liberty caps which hold their potency for years. One collection was analysed from England and was more than 150 years old and still possed much psilocine and psilocybine. Have a shroomy day. Mj btw, I was the first person in the USA and the world to give dosages for many specie of the mushrooms. Magic Musrhooms of the Pacific Northwest and also the Safe-PiK Mushroom ID guide posted at erowid.org , (1976 and 1978-1980). Have a shroomy day and thanks for checking out the best site on shrooms on the web. mj

Thanx MJ - so we can safely say that the woodlovers at least (with the exception of Liberty Caps) are the most potent. Fresh Ps.Subaeruginosa also pack a punch pretty damn close to Ps.Cyanescens
