I lit a candle tonight............
    #5339552 - 02/25/06 10:30 PM (17 years, 11 months ago)

& placed it high up, between this earth & the stars.

Because, I believe sometimes, a soul leaving a dieing body, may need a tiny glimmer of light, as a guide towards the wherever that soul must go.

(a friend is near her last moments here, on this earth)

I would guide her, but - cannot, as my time has not yet come.

Parting, I said (in tears), with a smile.

This is the culmination, a celebration of your life here.

Fear not, go..... on to your next.

like a spore in the wind
finding its place to grow
it builds its stem thick and strong
symbiotically the fungi becomes one
towards the light
to greater heights
grow with me
and return to our place in the wind

How did you arrive at such a belief? It would seem to me that, if some soul actually exists that gives ourselves our consciousness and stores our memories and identity, then it would quite more advanced than to need a physical flame from a candle to "guide" it to somewhere it is suspossedly going, that would obviously not be within the physical realm in the first place.

I believe that rubbing my right foot with a guitar pick assists the moon's orbit around the Earth, that sometimes it needs a little help to guide it in doing so.
Nothing like believing in unsubstantiated cause and effect?

Make belittling fun, if you wish.
(your time will come, make fun then).

This morning, the candle I lit was - out. She passed away.

In my life, I have seen death close up, many many many times.

I have taken life.

Once, I had to decide who may live & who must die.

More than once, holding someone in my arms, at the moment of their death.

I felt life leave them.
One moment, there was life in them.
The next moment, it was gone.

I felt it go.

I learned, those who are unafraid, go easy, without fear.

Those with fear & regrets, go weakly, as if unsure where they may go.

Lighting a candle, is(to me)simply a sign, a soul is about to depart.
It was simply a symbol, in honor of her departure.
As, we all will - ourselves - someday.

I feel better for having done it. I mourn the loss.

Questioning of beliefs is not belittlement.

Assisted suicide, or murder?

Personal symbolism is one thing, but you were asserting a belief that lighting a candle is sometimes necessary for some soul to "find its way". One is simply within the realm of personal value and meaning, the other a suspossed observation of reality (which obviously has no basis in any substantiation).

i dunno, sounds a little belittling to me.

if you believe something, it is true, at least to you. even if it is unsubstantiated. and as far as issues with the after life are concerned, none of us really know. dont rub your foot too hard, you might cause a tsunami. gravity is not a toy.

Then you are apparently rather untrained in making such assessments. The illustrated point is that one can produce the craziest beliefs, as the one in my example, and it will have as much verification and the same position as the belief in question.

I was not attempting to make his belief look crazy, or to belittle it, merely to clarify the fact that it has just as much verification and basis as the crazy belief.

Which is great when the belief in question takes the form of personal symbolism, something that concerns oneself. The "belief" is something that only pertains to the individual and is not an observation or a model of reality itself.

One can believe that the Sun is really a hologram produced by the technology of the Australian government, and the mental programming responsible for such a belief will be accepted as representing a true aspect of reality. Yet when such a belief is proclaimed to be an observation of reality itself, as the example of the Sun's holographic existance, then, I think you can see, the problem therein..... :smirk:

Exactly. Why delude ourselves by telling ourselves that "what feels right" is thus the truth on the matter? Belief means to hold it as true.

We can see how such naturally conflicts with the assertion that "none of us really know".

You might want to have that checked out. Suppresion of powerful emotions is not exactly a beneficial thing for your emotional well-being, and there is some aspect of your mental programming that is producing a negative emotion in the first place that may need focus and healing.

It was nothing more than a momentary flash of consternation, that anyone would INFER.......MURDER, as you did.

A friend of mine left this world & that was my loss.

You don't have the common courtesy of even expressing sadness, or sorrow about the death of a another human being. Instead, you pick apart my sorrow & personal insights into that passage - beyond this life. Then, have the audacity to advise me, (LOL)I should seek help.
I think the reverse is applicable.

It was my mistake, to post about this here.
As, I should know better.

I simply asked a question, as you have stated that you have taken life before. Forming a question as to the manner in which you have taken life seems to be a reasonable response to the statement, I'm sure you would agree. I don't understand the necessity of becoming emotionally upset as a result.

I simply asked a question if the belief you expressed, that a soul needs help in passing to another place by means of a physical signal, was of any basis in reality. You stated that it is merely personal, subjective symbolism. I stated that such is perfectly acceptable, as long as it is not made into being a statement of the nature of reality as it can actually be perceived.

Such clarification is necessary in order to know exactly that which is being discussed, in order to effectively exchange ideas. Such is the nature of philosophical/spiritual discourse.

I can't recall ever having stated that you should seek help. Demonstrate where I have implied such?

Based upon what? My attempts to discuss topics that are expressed in this forum, usually in order for discussion of them to ensue? :wtf:
