A candle to those who died in New York
    #394804 - 09/15/01 12:10 AM (23 years, 4 months ago)

I deeply thank those who have died.
I thank them for reminding me, that I will die too.
No one can live forever, yet I live as if I can.
What can I do?
I am a source of grief for others
because when I die others will cry for me.
The better person I am the more others will cry.
Does this sound right?
If many people rejoice when I die,
haven't I been a monster all my life?
Think about this. Is this right?
If you light a candle
and you pity the poor souls who died,
you waiste that candle.
If you light a candle
and think of your own death,
you waist half the candle.
And if you think of your own death,
without lighting the candle,
it will still be wasted in other ways.
Isn't this a truly amazing world?

we all fear death until we die and find out that what comes after death is great

Last night on the 6 o'clock news there was a story about how everyone should stop what they are doing at 7pm and light a candle for all the people involved in the WTC disaster.

LittleShroom and I went out to the main road near our house and set up a candlelight vigil, expecting others to join us. Unfortunetly...no one did. We got a few waves, lots of smiles a honk or two. The guy who works in the store we were sitting in front of came out and sat with us for a little while...but that is about it.

I guess we might have expecting too much. I thought the world would stop and everyone would pull candles out of thier purses/breifcases/backpacks, but I guess not everyone carries a candle with them.

In Jersey City, just across the river from what's left of WTC. 20 square feet of melted wax, all different colors and shapes, many little pieces of paper, all covered in wax and tears. Real real tears, I sware I could still hear crying in my head, although everyone from that gathering is long gone home. And then a cleaning person comes, and starts scraping that beauty off the sidewalk and throwing it into the trash can. "Do you have to be doing this now?" I ask. "Yes" says he, with an annoyed "no shit" look of a person who's been asked that same question a hundred times. And I just stand there and I look at small pieces of wax, now in a heap, now in the trash can, now gone.... The next day business will continue as usual....
