Some people have them. What's yours?
And who composed it?

Grant, O God, thy protection,
and in protection, strength,
and in strength, understanding,
and in understanding, knowledge,
and in knowledge, the knowledge of justice,
and in the knowledge of justice, the love of it,
and in that love, the love of all existences,
and in the love of all existences, the love of God,
God and all goodness.

gorsedd prayer - iolo morganwg - 1792 summer solstice

Recently I have started taking Zen practice very seriously. During most zen ceremonies, the Maka Hannya Haramita Shin Gyo is recited, so I'm learning this text by heart at the moment, which involves reciting it a couple of times a day. It is the Heart Sutra translated in Chinese with many words borrowed from Sanskrit and pronounced in the Japanese from the 1200s.

Like a mantra it's mostly a tone poem (according to Taisen Deshimaru even modern day Japanese need a translation to get the meaning), but it is very dynamic and joyous and the meaning helps me to keep some perspective when I start taking life too seriously.

EDIT: in my post below I've linked an audio file of master Taisen Deshimaru reciting the Hannya Haramita sutra.

I like the Seven Line Prayer of Guru Rinpoche and the Dusum Sangye. And the Vajra Guru Mantra. The first prayer is said to be really good for lightening depression, and I find it's true. The second one for removing obstacles and fulfilling wishes. And the Vajra Guru mantra is said to have no limit to its benefits, like a wish fulfilling jewel. Here's some links to these things. Since the first two are rather long I do only 25 of each, and the second one around 540, based on a 108 mala.

Dusum Sangye (By Chokyur Lingpa Rinpoche):

http://www.monlam.org/mainprayers.html

Guru Rinpoche, Buddha of the three times,
Lord of all siddhis who is the one of great bliss,
Dispeller of all obstacles, wrathful tamer of Mara,
We supplicate you; please grant your blessings.
Grant your blessings that outer, inner and secret
  obstacles be pacified,
And that our intentions be spontaneously accomplished.

  Dusum Sangye Guru Rinpoche
  Ngodrub kundag dewa chenpo shab
  Barchey kunsel dudul dragpo tsal
  Solwa debso jingyi labtu sol
  Chinang sangwey barchey shiwa dang
  Sampa lhungyi drubpar jingyi lob

Seven Line Prayer (By Mipham):

http://www.quietmountain.org/links/teachings/7_Line_Prayer_To_Guru_Rinpoche/7lnpryr.htm

HUNG!
ORGYEN YUL-KYI NUP-CHANG TSHAM,
PEMA KESAR DONG-PO LA,
YA-TSHEN CH'OG-KI NGODRUP NYEY,
PEMA JUGNE ZHEY-SU TRAG,
KHORTU KHADRO MANGPO KOR.
KHYED-KYI JEYSU DAG-DRUB KYEE,
CHIN-KYEE LAB-CH'IR SHEGSU SOL,
GURU PEMA SIDDHI HUNG.

Vajra Guru Mantra (By Guru Padmasambhava - Lotus Buddha):

OM AH HUNG VAJRA GURU PEMA SIDDHI HUNG.

It's said that in the past, present, and future one will never become truely liberated without the Three Gems of the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, so why go elsewhere in times of trouble?  Liberated even in one life.

For verily I say to Thee the Buddha is right here and right now.
