Best way to sterilize casing w/out pressure cooker
    #531305 - 01/25/02 06:39 PM (22 years, 10 months ago)

I am getting ready to make my first casing and was wondering what would be the best way to sterilize it; either by oven or microwave? I am using the 50/50+ tek.

hoy.

i just got done researching a bit, but i do have a cooker (tiny) but the oven broke and the microwave doesnt exist...

supposedly you can put the mix in a pyrex casserole pan, cover it with saran wrap and zap it for 10 min

and have sterility.

or oven with foil @ 200F for an hour...

Now if i use the microwave, would I zap it after everything is mixed and damp, or would I zap the ingredients separately before mixing. I'm just wondering about moisture loss, and what, if anything, it could do to the lime and oyster shells. Thanks for the response.
