i'm a first time mushroom grower shopping for my supplies. i've heard peat moss is a good substitiute for vermiculate... is this true? if not, what are some good substitutes? [i ordered a durable strain of psylocibe cubensis spores in a syringe, if that helps.]
Thanks

peatmoss doesn't generally substitute vermiculite, but rather is used in conjunction in the 50/50+ casing mix. There really aren't any substitutions when it comes to making PF cakes. Make sure you check the garden stores near you. As well as the garden centers in all the big chain hardware stores like lowes and home depot. If all else fails you can just order some online.

do you have a pressure cooker? If you do id highly suggest skipping the PF tek and going straight to grains.

-------------------- Getting the most out of your casings!, A pinning strategy. Oyster Shell "Flour" $2 for 1lb. a hell of a deal Not what is overlay but rather what overlay is Gas Exchange vs. FAE "We all have priorities. I used a closet once setup a nice little lab trouble was all the shit that was in there ended up in the bedroom that pissed off the GF then I ended up dumping her as she was getting in the way of my sterile culture technique! Ya I got priorities too!!!"
