Invitro pinning on agar after 2 days?
    #522720 - 01/16/02 07:42 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

I inoculated several new agar plates with mycelium taken from the mother culture (koh samui). The original culture was grown out on agar mixed with the left over water from boiled down grains for the nutrients. The new plates were agar mixed with brf/the nutrient water. Ok on three of the plates the mycelium is real thick and healthy looking, starting to take over the new plates after only 2 days, and there seems to be mycelium growing upwards into the air...and getting thicker. I did not know that it was possible to get mushrooms to grow invitro on plates after only a few days, but I have no other explanation for this...looks pretty cool. Has anyone else had experience with this?

I don't think that they are promordia. The time is way to short for that. It sounds much more like very agressive ryzomorphic growth. Especially when the athmosphere is very humid, like inside a fresh petri dish, the mushrooms tends to grow into the humid air. This happens especially if it is a species that has a very ryzomorphic growth, like Psi. cubensis. Something similar happens with Pleurotus ostreatus,a edible mushroom.

Thanks very much for the reply. I thought it was too early for primordia, but I just had never seen this myself before. So I guess I shall take this to be a good think, strong growth...excellent...cheers. Never tried growing the koh samui before, but I am liking what I am seeing...at least on agar.
