Where can I get a HEPA filter? I am looking at the www.fungifun.com/flowhood link. All of them I have to get a quote. Are there any large local stores that may have one? All I can find on ebay is vacuum filters. I need to find a place to get any kind of hepa. I am looking for a 24x24. Any help is appreciated.

you can build one for cheap. theres plan someone has kicking around esentually just tape a furnace hepa to the intake of a fan and bingo. normally have the normal filter in front of the hepa so it filters first and so can be replaced cheaper more often. check out futureshop, home depo zellers and what ever else u might have where you live.

I am having problems finding a blower now. I am going to be using a 24x18x5.8 HEPA filter.

I called a heating and air place around here and they told me he had one, (he had to put the wires and converter I think it was?) 40$ was the cost. I have a 24x18x5.8 HEPA filter. Around what CFM will I need? I plan on using a couple prefilters.

It's from a heating and air place. He is putting new wires and shit on it. He said: "When you pull them off a furnace you have to put wires and an inverter(converter maybe? I don't remember)"

To calculate correct fan/filter combinaion. Take the net cfm of the fan at the filters rated level of resistance and divide the number by the square footage of filter face.
you want 100 feet per minute

Hrm...How do I tell what the cfm on the blower is? Some guy just called and offered to sell me a blower for 30$. The only thing he could tell me is it came from a gas furnace or something and its 110.

Ebay often has DEALs on hepa filters. (see item number 7584852141 for instance).
You can get high quality used SQL cage fan/motors from furnace repair places for cheap.
Electric supply shops have fairly inexpensive variable speed motor controls.
Building one is not rocket science. You save a PILE of $$$$$$$$$$, building your own. Plus, a sense of satisfaction, doing so.

Yeah. I traded for the hepa filter. The blower is going to cost 30$. The rest of the materials shouldn't be too much. I hope the blower has enough cfm.

Yeah, you can change the cfms with a speed control.
I dont know of a way to figure out the cfm of a fan, other than taking the model number and inquiring the manufacturer.
Or you can go to an appliance shop, and find a blower that has the cfm on the furnace and take the one you need. It should have a little label that says its cfm.
