Aristole has been recorded, in time, by writings of men. It is not direct knowledge, it is associative. Even your own words are not direct knowledge, they can only associate and co-relate to the true direct thoughts in your head.

You think you see colors, but in reality colors dont necessarily exist. We just organize the vibrations and wavelengths (information and pattern recognition) similiar to how hubble paints invisible - to our eyes - clouds of gas into beautiful images. This means there is no such thing as color, just what you interpret as color... and the same applies to all things, except what can be directly known. The only way to know is to be.

This doesn't mean give up formal education; in fact, I think it hints more to the opposite. We all process a somewhat similiar reality, and do the best we can at understanding and explaining the behavior of things. And, in my opinion, to really live a purposeful life, one must engage in the quest to understand. However, the understanding and explanation is not the real existance, it is merely a logical interpretation. Hence, water does not freeze at -32 F... its more like 31.4825890u490584954... and even that exists in a spectrum approaching infinite.

And my succinct, simple answer is: Inferential knowledge.

Direct knowledge, indirect knowledge, subliminal knowledge, superliminal knowledge, ja ja ja.. all denote knowing. Frankly, nitpicking about variances between types of knowledge is not something I have much interest in participating. This thread is about one question: Are certain things unknowable? In the parental post, I made a reference to inferential knowledge as it serves a key role in man's knowledge. The point is that whatever form of knowledge takes place - it is knowing, be it knowing the that or knowing the what.

On the contrary. Colors do exist. As was discussed between Mushman and I, these qualities are products of a metaphysical relationship between object and apparatus - it is man's form of grasping the object. These qualities are not in object alone or perciever alone - but object-as-percieved.

Hehe, perhaps g*d constructed a hemi-permeable membran between him and us, so he can influence and know everything absolute directly, but we are not able to know that cause. For example. Perhaps there will be a technology laters, which will simulate that for man too. Don't ask me, how that could work :grin: But then the man behind the aparatus would know, so it's not unknowable. Perhaps we should look at 'un'knowability a bit deeper ?
You mean 'in general' and for every human...
That offers one question for me: Can we backtrack a cause to its roots ? Or is there perhaps any cause, we are not able to backtrack ?
So I land at the beginning.
Perhaps this will be the last barrier to break, to find the last unknown cause.
Sure yes, we are only able to know something, that influences us in some kind, what does not mean, that something that does not influence us and so we can't know does not exist. But it gets weird, if something influences us but we are not able to know what it is. I think this exists, see above :smile:
