dictatorial regime in Italy

Dear Brothers and Sisters
yesterday there has been another social forum in Messina (southern part of italy)
against the dictatorial regime that actually hurts civil rights of Italian (and not just of the italian) peoples.
they talk about democracy, but maybe they don't know the meaning of this word.
when the government goes against the people, when police deliberately attacks pacific demonstrants, just claimin' for their rights...it has to be called TIRANNY!!!!
so we can just cry:

UPRISING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS,PEOPLE.

Probably you won't get much response here, as the majority of the readers/posters are from the US.

Berlusconi and the current italian government really seem to be on par with Bush and the US republicans. Unfortunately, the political situation in Italy receives significantly less attention than that in the US, even in countries that are part of the EU.

I hope the era of Berlusconi will come to an end soon.

I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them.  I also attack my side if I think they're wrong.  People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

Uhm, I don't think the original poster made his statements in the context of the debate about this bridge. I think it is about the general political situation in Italy, which seems to excel the Bush administration in many parameters of ugliness.
Berlusconi owns a large portion of the media business which he uses for propaganda, he quite openly evaded the law in some instances, making new laws that aid him keeping power and the usual right-wing stuff (draconian drug laws, participation in the iraq war etc.)

I think it disgusts you so much because europe had this system for decades and is doing quite fine, while you would predict that such a system will lead to inevitable collapse.

I don't think it's him with a dissonance problem. One might also point out that there appears to be a political move to the right lately from some fed up people who pay the bills. See Italy, Portugal, Germany.

Italy is a good example of how governments are over-corrupted and will do anything they can to keep the power in their hands. I could say the same of France. I don't really criticize my government on this forum, but believe me that i do in real life among friends. In fact what i've noticed is that in france its a pretty normal thing to criticize the government, among my generation at least, but that in the US its a touchy subject, almost like its a daring thing to do..
