Variable Pedros
    #5182871 -

Greetings,

I have been using Pedro medicine for a while now. I am still amazed at how variable the cactus are from plant to plant. The last one was quite different. We did the same prep method as usual. 1200 grams of fresh cactus. Blended (skin and all. Simmered on low heat and extracted fluid through cheesecloth). After drinking the very bitter tea, the effects in an hour were very strong, but mostly sedative without as much of the psychoactive effects that I seek from the Pedro. This was a pretty large pachanoi. No new growth. In fact it was quite stressed when we bought it. Sunburned, dry, etc. It is also winter and I have read an opinion that the alkaloids are not as active in the winter. Anyone else heard that? I am also wondering if the extrene stress had degraded the mescaline to a point. It could have just been genetic. Our last predo had very fantastic visuals and was more of a stimulant. This one was like being very drunk and falling asleep! It sort of reminded me of degraded cannabis once tried.

Anyway, thought I would share that.

there are many hundreds of plants which the laymen has lumped into the term 'San Pedro' each clone has a different genetic makeup, there are many more things in a cactus that interact with your mind than just mescaline - alkaloids and/or chemicals i'm not down with the specifics

I would caution against using cacti that you have freshly purchased, unless your supplier explicitly specifies that they have not used any systemic pesticides or fungicides on the cactus. These are chemicals that remain in the cactus flesh and are toxic to humans, very bad for your liver etc. You are much better off to buy a cactus and grow it, organically, for at least a couple of years, and only use the flesh that has grown since you've owned it.

You don't want to accidentally give yourself some nasty problems from running a bunch of systemics through your system. I'm not trying to freak you out or anything, just a warning for future occasions.
