Active Constituents (of some cacti)

Botanical name mescaline other alkaloids

Lophophora williamsii ~1% dry Ann,And,Ant,Annd,H,L,P,T
Trichocereus peruvianus 0.8% dry T
pachanoi 0.1% wet Annd,H,T
bridgesii 0.1% wet T
validus 0.1% wet
macrogonus <0.05% wet T
terscheck. <0.05% wet Ann
werdermann. <0.05% wet T
taquimbal. <0.05% wet H
cuzcoensis <0.01% wet T
Stetsonia coryne <0.01% wet T
Pelecyphora aselliformis 0.00002% And,H,P

Mescaline content is probably given as hydrochloride, 128 mg mescaline HCl = 200 mg mescaline sulfate. Doses of mescaline are usually measured as sulfate. "Dry" means dry weight, "wet" fresh weight.

hmm...going by this chart I may have to pick up some Trichocereus peruvianus instead of some Trichocereus bridgesii. Would you happen to have a link to where you got this information from because I have heard that bridgesii has more mescaline then San Pedro.

where does your data comes from, MS?
besides wondering it i think i should state that potency will vary with season, the individuals, the spot where they grow. its not just black on white...

Trouble with those figures is that they're only quoted to one significant figure...

spelling is correct on the order page
I guess they just used shorthand and skull added ensis to that?

I don't quite know the percentages of alkaloids. I'll give erowid a quick check. anybody with sources for this claim of 2X?

Someone with cash is going to have to get some cuzcoensis and some peruvianus and do an extract...

that's the thing, you wont know what conditions they were grown in up until you recieve it so you have no guarentee they are ideal for alkloid production. That will be a factor in your final extract weight. You might get absolutely nothing or you might be blown away with how much is there.

the question is 2x the content of what alkaloid?

and theocean06, the torch % is dry, but they do have higher content then pedro.

I was actually just looking at Erowid today on this subject, except just with San Pedro vs. Peruvian Torch. They have an excellent write up on the debate:

http://www.erowid.org/plants/cacti/cacti_article1.shtml

It seems like there isn't enough info, but most likely there wouldn't be so much different between types of cacti as much as just the quality of conditions it was raised in.

I'd wager peruv/bridge/pach are all vaguely the same potency... the owner's care is probably the most important part...

Take all such figures with a large grain of salt. No way peruvianus is 8x pedro. They are about the same. My money is on pedro over all others including peyote simply because it grows so fast. Peruvianus is good too but the spines are so long and nasty. I grow pedro, peru and bridge because I want some of each but the one I have the most of is pedro. I just bought more cuttings to build up my garden. I already have about 20 plants and a bunch more rooting. After they are all rooted I'll have a few dozen good sized plants. Give me a few more years and watch out!

Well, I can imagine it being 8x more potent by weight if the torch is dry, and the pedro is wet.

...I personally dont believe in stressing... maybe though... its supposed to induce flowers.... still wouldnt do it....

Doping is one thing... and nutrients are another... I'd do the nutrient thing, just cause I'm natural... and not in a hurry to get knocked on my ass.. and a healthier cactus means more gorwth, and more magic... probably in a shorter time than proccessing precursors.

thanks 4 ur 2cents harv.my 2 peruvianus are currently 12.5 inches tall, about 3inches thick at base and half way up the cactus the thickness shrinks to about 2 inches.i started these as 6inch cuttings.they're growing at a rate of almost 2 inches a month.from what i've read this is abnormal for them to be growing this tall at this rate.anyone have any advice for me?do i really need them to slow down and get fatter?
