Captain Max Mushroom is a very complex individual. He is the mascot for the Elphinstone Living Forest enviromental group, a published writer and photographer, including several mushroom articles, a co-founder of a mycological society, a commercial mushroom harvester and a spore vendor extrodinaire.

As an enviromental mascot, he appears at Earth Day festivities, the annual 'Creek Daze' parade, at roadside rallies and promotioanl functions. His picture and info have appeared in several local newspapers and magazines and he has even been mentioned in Mushroom: The Journal, a US-based magazine.

In 1996, while searching the internet for promotional possibilites, he stumbled across adm and discovered a bevy of souls searching for the Ps. cyanescens spores which are common in his backyard. He immediately sent out over 100 free cyan prints, along with mail-in cards promoting saving the enviroment and Mt. Elphie in particular.

In the past 5 years, he has sent out hundreds of these mail-in cards while providing shroomerites with some of the highest quality exotic sporeprints.

Many shroomerites have visited Captn Max and have taken advantage of his offer of free guided hikes of Mt. Elphie. People have actually come all the way to the west coast from places like Toronto and Philadelphia, just to hike the gentle moss-covered slopes of mushroom-laden Mt. Elphie.
