My next task is to set up a meeting between some local shroomerites and a professional mycologist.
Paul Kroeger is western Canada's #1 mycologist. He's past president of the Vancouver Mycological Society and his work can be found in Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by Paul Stamets. I believe he is also mentioned in the acknowledgments of a couple other myco books.
And he is a personal friend of Captain Max Mushroom.
P K visits Mt. Elphinstone here on the Sunshine Coast of BC, Canada several times each year, often bringing with him members of the VMS.
It's a special treat when he shows up for our monthly mushroom walks. Those of you who are impressed by the smidgens of information put forth by variuos shroomery members will be amazed to meet a REAL expert with the vast amount of mycological and naturalistic knowledge Kroeger has. He'll pick up practically any living thing off the forest duff and speak for 20 minutes on it. It's names, origins, uses, even funny anecdotes.
I'll be keeping my ears to ground and finding out when P K will be appearing next. There are several shroomerites in the British Columbia area who have visited or hav expressed an interest in visiting Mt. Elphie, P K's visit would be the time to come.

Max although i havent in the past agreed with some of your statements, i must congradulate you on the Sporelab's psilocybe cyanescens pages. They are an invaluable resource for the OMC - great work!!

I have been getting emails and pm's from people across the US and I'd just like to point out that this is only a '3 hour tour'.
Everybody is welcome of course but it's prolly of interest more for local people in the greater Vancouver area. I don't think it's worth travelling across the continent for!

note: it's a fun walk anyway, lots of massive trees, and very quiet. even if you can't make it up to see myco guys, go up sometime anyway, it's worth the few bucks it costs to get across to robert's creek

First Sunday in May could very well be the day. P K usully comes up for a spring hike, there are lots of mushrooms around at that time on Mt. Elphie, mostly variuos types of cup fungi. None are magic but they are very interesting nevertheless and P K's mini-lectures on each specie make it that much more interesting.
That is what makes meeting a real expert so special, they know ALL the mushrooms, not just the one specie we are concerned with!

Hey max, I have always wanted to come out mnt Elphie, but it never seems to work out. I will stop by ASAP, as I really want to check out mnt Elphie. I have never even seen the rain forest. I will make it out before the end of next summer I promise!!

Giving out cheap syringes is one thing, how many vendors actually offer to teach you something in the field? It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside knowing a bunch of shroomerites are coming to Mt. Elphie for a real educational - and fun - experience!
