Tapalpa Rapido (Fast Tapalpa)
    #617682 - 04/24/02 06:46 PM (21 years, 7 months ago)

Well I didn't think there would be any point in looking before now, but I looked at my Tapalpa jars this morning and could see LOTS of mycellium growing. Huge chunks 1/3" to 1/4" in diameter running down the jars in a line. This is only 4 days since I innoculated them into the brf tek jelly jars. I'm impressed Captain Max. You said it was fast, but I'm a beginner and I never expected it to be this fast. I've seen lots of photos of mycelium progress, but I'm right up there with the best of them. After all the time and energy and money I've invested I feel like I can relax now. IT'S WORKING! I'll be chompin down in no time.

I've had many compliments on the speedy Tapalpa's but that is the first complaint about its potency!

As for the number of fruits, Tapalpa on a brf cake usually fruits several medium sized mushrooms. Other strains produce anything from many small to just 1 or 2 large. I have found that the total yield from a Tapalpa cake is comparable to most any other strain.

The Tapalpa really has impressed me. The little jelly jars are 3/4 collonized after 7 days and the fastest jar is 1/4" from the bottom. I should be finished in a couple of days. I just turned the jars upside down today to get rid of the CO2. Captain Max said they would be fully collonized in 10 days. I really would like to push it and be finished in 9 just to show that beginners can grow just as well as anyone. I like the idea of medium sized fruits because I don't want a bunch of huge monstrosities falling all over the place. I have a very small grow operation and for me size is limited. A couple of Wollongongs and the lid will fly right off the aquarium.

there is a difference between colonisation and fruiting - in actual fact cottony mycelia (the type that rarely fruits and often is associated with overlay often colonises faster than rhizomorphic mycelia

The Tapalpa is over the bottoms today after 8 days. There are just a few places here and there that need to be filled in. I am going to predict that by tomorrow they will be fully colonized. That will be 9 days. I still see no signs of any contamination so hopefully I've made it. I'll soon be casing.
I think I may have screwed up on the days because I remember now I innoculated on Monday AM before work. That means I am really on day 7. Let me think about that. Yes it's only 7 days.
Now I'm really impressed.

Tapalpa usually colonizes pretty quickly all right and then produces nice mushrooms but 7 days is just about a new record!

I hope its not cobweb mould.... lol!

Sorry about that. It really is day EIGHT, I innoculated on Sunday, not Monday. However, when I got home from work today the bottom on the fastest one had closed completely over. There is just a tiny space now and it is the last holdout. I could almost call it done, but I'm not cheating. Whatever it is, that's what it is. I don't think it's mold. I've looked at lots of photos and this is mycellium for sure. Just the way it started off, running down the glass underneath the holes tells me it's mycellium. My esp tells me it's mycellium...I can feel it.
