ripple, it would be much sweeter if you could use the newsgroups.. it's like the free grocerie store of music...

i pay $15 a month just to have access, well worth it.. but i dl a bunch of dvd's, which are huge, music files are a lot smaller and you can get those much faster... once your plugged in, your gonna be set, and it's much safer than the peer 2 peer or torrent or irc methods.  most the time, you get full albums, which is even better... i just downloaded an assload of albums the other day

give us a list, and i bet we could come up with something...  :yesnod:

Soul Seek is free, Rip. It's the best for rare music and full albums. Don't go to that fake Soul Seek site, though. The addy for the real one is www.slsknet.org.

If you are up to downloading albums from torrent files, using demonoid.com can really come in handy. Just download the file and use a client, such as Azureus, to download it with.

You're probably just in queue. If the song is in black, then it's probably available. If it's grey, then you're in queue for it. If it's in red, then the user has logged off.

tends to... but sometimes you get some whack shit... but you get so much cooler stuff, like the dick's picks floods where you download every album... flood's are freakin sweet... they force you to have a sweet music collection

Does much live dead music get posted to usenet? I've been considering getting a subscription after archive removed all the sbds. are there different binary groups devoted to different genres? do you have to wade through a lot of spam inside music groups?

alt.binaires.lossless, dont go there much though, i download so much, but yea, just post something, and request something, it should be there...

mostly flac in that group. dont know about other groups... spam, not really. in fact, virtualy none... virtualy...
